| Binaries Folder - What is it?
I found a folder named Binaries on my storage drive. There are two files in this folder;
_svdir.VBS
SOAPVDIR.CMD
I found some information on this but still don't understand how this managed to create itself in my storage drive. I read that some had it under their main drive also.
Here is some info on something called SOAP Toolkit that this presumably belongs to. I don't even know what that is.
So what could of made this folder and files?

The Microsoft SOAP Toolkit is deprecated by the .NET Framework. The toolkit provides basic Web services capabilities for COM components and applications. SOAP Toolkit support has been extended from the originally posted July 1, 2004 deadline. Mainstream SOAP Toolkit support will now be retired in March 31, 2005 with extended support lasting until March 31, 2008.
The SOAP Toolkit 3.0 provides a SOAPVDIR.CMD script (located in the C:\\Program Files\MSSOAP\Binaries folder) that reconfigures existing virtual directories for use with the SOAP Toolkit 3.0 ISAPI and creates new virtual directories that use the SOAP Toolkit 3.0 ISAPI. The SOAPVDIR.CMD script allows you to create new IIS virtual directories or update existing ones. |

Those dates are all past, and I'm pretty sure I've got a 'soap' file or two on my machine.
I'm going to clean up by throwing away the SOAP! |

Just to point out that both the .VBS & the .CMD should be text files.
So open them in Notepad & see what they say. |

Just a quick comment here.
In the unix world, executable program files are usually called "binaries". And while not technically binaries, executable scripts are sometime stored with the binaries.
I don't know whether this is where the name arose for your folder, but at least it's a plausible guess.

Edit - I believe that the correct directory is:

Why do you want to delete these, Fusionguy? IMHO, you probably should not delete MS files, unless you are really sure about what you're doing, and how it will affect your system. There are much easier ways to clear some space on your harddrive, if needed. For example, running:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cleanmgr.exe |

| Yes I also have the C:\Program Files\Common Files\MSSOAP\Binaries\ folder. The creation date of the folder was in May of this year. The Binaries folder (in my D drive) with the two files was created on the 23rd of this month. I did back it up and then delete it. Everything seem to be running as usual. Don't known why it picked my D drive though. |
