Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

Today, I changed HMOs and the new HMO doesn't offer dental insurance. The old plan had very good dental insurance at $20 per month.

I wonder if any of you have impressions you could share regarding the two dental insurance companies mentioned above? I've got to decide pretty quickly and have no one to ask here.

Thanks.

In your area - Delta is the better choice.
You are looking at their DMO plan - correct?

Not familiar with the term DMO.

DMO (Dental Maintenance Organization) like an HMO - managed care

I guess. I was only looking at Blue Cross Dental Premier Plan because my Dentist office recommended it. A couple of friends just signed up for Delta but couldn't give a reason why they did it. I need to investigate Delta.

Neither plan seems to be as good as the one I presently have because the co-pays are MUCH higher.

I switched to another HMO because there is no charge for it.

Re: Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

BC/BS (Premier)is an excellent plan.
And doubly so if you have a rapport with your dentist - and he accepts it

Dental insurance has become a luxury - if you are an existing patient, have a good dentist, and a plan he accepts, and you can be sure he'll work with it vs losing you

I will have my regular dentist office if I sign up for BC. I will have the son because his father, my dentist for 17 years recently died. His son is a typical money grubbing bottom feeder like many of them.

Re: Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

Their schedule of benefits is slightly better than Delta's, jadinolf See Profile

..slightly

But may give you a few more options should you ever choose to seek a new office out.

Re: Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

I received two identical envelopes from Blue Cross and thinking they were identical-- I just opened #2 and they were not.

One is for Anthem Blue Cross SelectHMO Plans for Seniors and the other is Anthem Blue Cross Senior Dental PPO Plan.

Now I'm really confused. Not enough info to be able to tell the difference except PPO is more than twice as much per month.

Experts?

Re: Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

PPO vs HMO (DMO) - Typically means:

..participating provider network - you can go to whomever you choose. In network is maximum benefits

PPO: IN/OUT OF NETWORK BENEFITS
Freedom of Choice

OV CO-PAY ONLY -TYPICALLY/NOT ALWAYS
EACH PLAN DIFFERENT CO-INSURANCE is APPLICABLE

HMO (DMO): NETWORK PLAN (LEAST COST TO EMPLOYER/EE-RESTRICTED)

NEEDS REFERRAL

NO CALENDAR YEAR DEDUCTIBLE

CO-PAY THEN 100%

NO CO-INSURANCE

NO OUT-OF-NETWORK COVERAGE

UNLIMITED LIFETIME

NO BALANCE BILLING PERMITTED

Re: Delta Dental? Blue Cross Dental?

Thanks, lilhurricane. I knew I could depend on you. The HMO is $16 and would work for me (I hope).

Nowadays, that's the only accurate part, IMO. All of the rest is at the discretion of your employer and the terms they dictate.

Ive had nothing but bad experiences with Delta but that is more to do with the plan my employer has with them.

I don't have any experience with Blue Cross Dental, but I did have Delta Dental for about 5 years, and I never had a problem and they were very good.

I have Aetna Dental right now, and they have been good for me also.

Next year I think I have MetLife Dental, although I'm not 100% positive.

I'm thinking Delta Dental will not serve an individual. They only provide insurance for business plans.

And belated to you and the rest of the folks here.

By the way, I will be eating all of the 20 pound turkey that I roasted. Turkey does not agree with Fred. I just spent a half hour cleaning up the mess.

Going with Blue Cross.

Have to be with the insurance for 6 months before I can get treatment. Fingers crossed.

My employer used Delta Dental a few years ago, and after quite a significant number of employees expressed their dislike of it, they switched to Aetna's DMO.

One thing I remember was that you were severely limited as to where you could go for dentists that were within the plan. And the out-of-pocket maximum per year was also kind of low.

That was my problem. There is a premium Delta Plan that has every dentist in my town. The bottom of the line plan that I would sign up for has dental offices of questionable repute and at least 30 miles away.

At least with Blue Cross, I get my regular dental office. He's 30 miles away too but near Costco, The 99 Cent Only Store and Wally World.

I'm with Delta Dental Premier PPO, the visit co-pay is $5, and the benefit maximum is $1,500. I don't think my current dentist accepts them. They cover only 80% and I get to hear the complaints. What do people expect for $5.70 a month for single coverage.
