IKNS remote and VDSL2+ Remote problems

ok,

There have been a few topics all over the forums on Bell IKNS and VDSL2+ remote problems.

VDSL2+

I would like to see all the VDSL2+ problems listed here.
I know there is an upstream sync problem and seen a vdsl2+ user using a 516 modem not having a problem.

Can someone PLEASE address the VDSL2+ problem?

The IKNS remote problems:
What is the problem?
I know the upstream SNR is 6 and they are all interleave on on 2wire modems.

WHAT can be added here?

Deadpool, said an update to address the problem will be coming.

WHAT are ALL the problem in this IKNS remote situation?

The VDSL2+ issues isn't going to be fixed (I posted this about a month ago I believe).

As for the IKNS issue, it's being addressed (although no ETR at this time).

ty for info

@videotron.ca

thanks for the info.

Does anyone have any details as to what exactly the problems are with these remotes?

I recall seeing the VDSL2+ remotes don't sync properly on the upstream (low sync). Is this modem related at all? I ask because I do beleive I saw someone on VDSL2+ inthe forum post his stats on a 516 modem and I think he got full sync (going by memory).

For the IKNS remotes, if memory serves me correctly, the problems with that one is high latency and bogus upstream SNR reporting with the 2wire modem, while other modems have no issue.

are these the only problems? Or is there more to it?

I think the better question should be..
If it wont be fixed what is bell doing? You wont fix a known problem yet sell a service thats known cant get it on those?
Sounds like a serious legal problem if you get my drift as I havent seen any fine print excluding those on that platform from recieving the claimed speeds.

The problem with the VDSL2 cards is on the upload sync rate only and there have never been any speed guarantees in regards to that.

So without telling people you(bell not you personaly) sell them an inferior product at more money.Sounds about right.

I don't agree that it's inferior since the issue is only on the upload and everyone is getting around the same as they were previously or would if it were a non-VDSL2 card.

The downstream is still higher which is what the product sales pitch is based on.

Bell does however advertise *up to 1mbit* upload on the ADSL2+ packages, and it was 800kbit on the old ADSL packages...

But it's a moot point really, since the 2Wire modems Bell sends out have the stats locked out so the average joe wouldnt even know how to check.

I've got the same issue it seems as the 516's with Cisco WIC-1ADSL modules in my router. Chipset an issue? The wic's are using a Alcatel 20150 chipset, and constantly get the 6dB ATU-C SNR, while great ATU-R stats.

I think what DP means in that there is no fix ever for the VDSL2 issue for one simple reason, but not that PR stuff about uploads not being advertised. It's really that because of FTTN, there are power limites applied to ports on these remotes, regardless of the line protocol (ADSL1, 2. 2+ or VDSL2) by design. Some VDSL2 chipsets also have more stringent/lower maximum Rx/Tx values than older dsl equipment used in CO's.

Basically, power limits aren't a problem with VDSL2 since although usually lower power, it gets in more bits by using more spectrum (4-28 times more Mhz than ADSL1/2). Unfortunately, in order to eliminate remote-hosted ADSL/2/2+ clients from overpowering others, the same poewer restrictions are imposed. I believe that CPE cannot transmit above some value... in the Netherlands, depending on the average loop length, it ranges from 8.5dbm to 12.5dbm.

These power limits also prevent FTTN clients from reducing the line quality of customers that are CO-hosted, be it for ADSL, HDSL, or other services. Without power limits on FTTN, your CO-based link would get a lot of interference from remote hosted clients transmitting at the same or higher power than you.

Eventually, more finely tuned solution may be available that evaluate each loop and set the power limits higher on longer lines and lower for people close to the remote. But that day is far off for now and will likely wait until upgrades to MIMO VDSL2 are available, which basically coordinates all the subscribers on one node yo collecticely maximize throughput by optimizing spectrum allocation in realtime.

Will the new 7300 dslam equipment correct the upload issue?

the fix will come when they replace the hardware during the next major upgrade :P lolz (if you even call that a upgrade)

Right now, it occurs on VDSL2 LIM's inside stinger remotes. The same issue will likely exist on the 7330 range of equipment, because it a VDSL2 power mask and/or dynamic spectrum management thing. But in future, it won't matter since clients will be able to get VDSL2 capable hardware easily.

As an FYI, an ADSL2+ client on a VDSL2 remote at 250 meters of wire between OSLAM and modem has a maxx attainable upload of 893kbps with a 13db SNR margin and 8.5 DB power.

The upload sync issue with some modems on ADSL2+ LIM's on the stinger platform is a software bug.

Not to mention that the 3M Dynatel 950 ADSL2 Plus meters used by techs for diagnostics have an incompatibility with ports on the VDSL2 cards as well, and won't sync up properly. Go figure...

That's been fixed. Don't know if it's been completely rolled out yet though.

I contacted 3M directly about a week ago about an update, so if you're referring to version 1.31 of the firmware recently released, it does nothing but remove the timeout while attempting to connect.

That doesn't clear up the multimode chipset incompatibility 3M released a memo for. They gave some sort of crappy workaround.

I checked it out and 3M rolled out a new load approx. 2 months ago in that they no longer have. 3 minute timeout and will sync.
