I think thats the only way to get it deployed in rural areas is government subsidies. Its probably not financial feasible from a private companies point of view. Public dollars well spent i would think.

the US did this with both electricity and phone service to the benefit to ALL Americans yet Americans would be against doing this for broadband. I'm not sure how Canadians feel about this.
