vashincz posted : Just a quick addition to my post. The wifi on Belkin N1 vision sucks big time. My solution is: use the N1 Vision as a gateway and use second router (Linksys WRT54gs with sveasoft Talisman firmware) via crossover cable with DHCP and NAT disabled. Linksys is stable and with mentioned firmware you can do so many great things such as bandwidth shaping and creating multiple wifi networks. Your Belkin will monitor all the traffic and you will be able to see every user connected to your network. I do not recommend using N1 for wifi- connection drops, unable to reconnect etc. It is a fancy piece of shit, but the only cheap(ish) router which can display bandwidth usage on the screen. My setup worked fine until the Belkin decided to die. Well we'll see next week :)

vashincz posted : Ok. Today I called Belkin support and after patient 30 minutes on the phone I finally got to the point of getting a replacement. All you have to do is to call support and talk the problem through. Tell them you've tried everything - holding reset button for 30 seconds, firmware was up to date etc. Tell them that you are no newbie and You know the router is dead. First phase of the support will take your details and forward the call to the technician, who will try same stupid advices (by the book) you simply answer all his questions and let him know there is nothing else to try and final stage of the router is the download mode, which leads nowhere. He'll finally look in his database and realize the router is dead!! :)) He'll get your address and serial number of the router (no need of proving the purchase is needed) and you'll get new router in 7 days. EASY!!!! LIFETIME WARRANTY!!! so you can replace the router every time it dies on you :))))) GOOD LUCK and be patient with the support team - they do not speak the best english.

anon posted : Ok, me too. Just spent a wasteful half hour on phone with support..

went to restart my N1 today, and as per others descriptions it keeps resetting after about 20% progress on the reboot progress bar. Trying to do a reset either fails, or ends up at the DOWNLOAD MODE screen.

After humouring the tech support dude and all his suggestions i asked if there was a known issue with the router or the latest firmware. He replied yes. I asked what the issue was and he responded that there was no issues! I asked if we had misunderstood each other and he said yes. He then told me their was a "real" issue on the router. I asked what the resoltuion was. he said replace it! I laughed, thanked him for his time and ended the call.

So it seems my N1 has simply died after around 9 months service....

anon posted : This purchase is making me crazy insane. Mine flips out after updating the "virtual server" aka port forwarding. I am now borrowing some wifi just to get on. This is nutz. Reset leaves me with "download mode" cant get back to factory settings. I am going to ditch it and go back to linksys. I know everybody has issues but this is just too much. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel, just run a small website, slingbox, and read some email. Painful, painful, painful.

anon posted : I have EXACTLY the same problem. Device worked OK with firmware 1.00.11, some problems with WLAN. I thought to upgrade it to 1.00.15. This worked fine for a month, but the router began to HANG itself every week. After a reboot, it needed about 5-10 restarts until it finished booting. Now, a continuous loop I get...reset gives me "Download Mode" and nothing...

anon posted : Hi there,

I owned a Belkin n1 Vision and i wanted to update the firmware. You can see the bar filling one a little and then it will reboot itself again, always in a loop.

Then if i reset the router i get the message Download Mode and nothing happens. I searched around and followed this instructions.

"- Connect the computer to the router and disconnect the modem from the router.
- Take the paper clip and press the reset button of the router for 60 seconds.
- While holding reset button, after 20 seconds unplug the power cable of the router.
- Wait for 20 seconds and plug it back.
- And wait for 20 more seconds then release the reset button."

but this is not working. Is there a way to start up the router in Safe Mode? Or a way to reinstall the firmware?

Thanks in advance for your help.

MoExius
