just a little confused...

is this a break from the BT protocol? basically, will it cause a 'rift' between BT users because some people are using utorrent and others are using, perhaps, azureus? i just think that any major changes to the BT protocol should be done by some 'ruling body' that everyone listens too. my concerns may also be moot.

That is about new udp of utorrent was aiming at throttling issues because udp doesn't use any flags like tcp flags does. However, Using udp won't face any throttling.

It will only use udp to connect to peers that support it. It will connect to the other peers normally.

Just about zero changes to BT were done by any standards or peer group since BT Mainline client in Python came out. It was pretty much, 1 BT leader comes out with it, the 2nd and the 3rd talk with each other whether to accept it or not, if yes, all 3 will have it, it no, it lingers in the code of 1 client for some years and eventually is removed b/c nobody is using it. BT is not an ISO or IEEE or IETF standard.
