gdepetro : Well are you going to get a naked DSL line from Qwest? That most likely is more expensive than a phone line with DSL. Since you want a stripped down DSL the lowest speed Silver which is 1.5mgbt down and 760 up it will cost you about $35 a month with no bundle or contract. Just check their website.

As for a modem get an Actiontec gt701WG or gt704WG off ebay for cheap. Their firmware can be flashed for mac ompatibility.

pdxfile : Hi all,

I'm fairly new to DSLReports, and am looking to get Qwest DSL for my apartment. I'm likely going to get the "Broadband Only" service, for 2 reasons:

I'm month to month here, and I do not want a contract long term for broadband. I know I will only get basic DSL speeds as a result. Maybe someone can give me feedback on this as well, so I know what to expect. Considering I'm using dialup right now, anything will be an improvement.

I dont need/want a landline as I'm one of those cell-only kind of people, for good or bad. You can talk me out if it if you want...

Anyway, I'm wondering if basically any high quality DSL modems will work for me. I really don't want to lease a modem, month to month. I could maybe be in this apt. for 6 months, and by that time, I could have purchased a new modem. I'd rather have something I could take with me, and possibly use somewhere else in case I have to move, etc.

So my requirements are this:

I want a high quality, reasonably priced DSL modem (wired is fine, although I might consider wireless if the price is not substantially higher.
Something fairly easy to configure myself. I use WinXP Pro, SP3, all updates, yada yada... I do want Mac support as well.....

I'm basically looking for advice and suggestions based on actual use. I know I'm probably going to get just the "basic" DSL connection speed, so I don't expect miracles, but short of fiber optic high speed, I want to try to keep my options open with the hardware I do buy...

Suggestions, advice????
