SNR Ratio starts high, then slowly drops

Whenever I reset my modem from Verizon (Actiontec GT704WG), the SNR ratio starts out looking good, but over time slowly drops. At first, I see 14-15, but after a few hours it always drops down to 4-6, the speed starts dropping, and the errors start piling up. Is this the modem? Wiring? On Verizon's end? Something else? Thanks

ADSL modems are adaptive so it it is not uncommon for margin to go down over time, but no nearly to the degree you are experiencing. Margin lower then 6-9 dB means DSL signal is not much above noise so modem is not able to recover signal.

What speed do you have and what is line attenuation? If possible post screen shot.

First step, assuming DSL is shared with voice service, is to check voice quality. Do you hear noise on the phone, especially when phone first picked up or crosstalk, other voices. If so call Voice repair not Verizon On Line to get line repaired.

If voice is OK next step is to eliminate inside wiring/equipment. Temporally connect DSL modem to Phone Company NID test jack. This disconnects inside wiring. NID is typically located outside near electric meter but may be inside. If that fixes margin problem something inside your residence, wiring or equipment, is degrading DSL.

With only modem plugged into test jack call the number. Does ringing affect modem stats or cause it to disconnect? If so call Verizon On Line and describe the problem.

If neither resolves issue try calling Verizon On Line. But that is going to be an uphill battle as they do not guarantee a minimum speed and will most likely set you to a lower speed.
