Would You Like VOOM on FiOS?

I see that Verizon is planning on adding a bunch of lifestyle HD channels named "*.tv", like Pets.tv. This got me thinking about the Voom Networks, which I used to enjoy on Dish Network. I really miss the movie channels, Monsters HD, Kung Fu HD, Film Fest HD and VOOM HD Movies. If Verizon has the bandwidth, I would love to see the Voom Networks channels added to FiOS TV. So my question is, would you like to see these channels added too?

Not likely to happen. Owned by Cablevision and we all know what they will do to prevent Verizon from getting their programming.

I wouldn't mind if V. added them. I'm sure VOOM wouldn't mind either since Dish drop them. It all depends on customer need and how stubborn Cablevision is (owners of VOOM).

I could never stand the VOOM channels. I personnaly would not want them added. I would rather see VOOM consolidate down to just a couple channels.

I could see no Voom in areas that COMPETE with Cablevision but in areas that do not, that may be a different story.

I understand that Cablevision owns VOOM Networks, as well as IFC, Sundance and AMC. I seem to remember that Liberty Media (Dish Network) also had a stake in the company (Rainbow Media). But surely Cablevision doesn't own these services so that they can simply hoard them for themselves, but rather to lease the content for profit. Understanding that this is an assumption on my part, I would think that FiOS could work a deal with Rainbow Media. Surely they'll want to for atleast the HD feeds of IFC, Sundance and AMC at some point.

Eventually Verizon will probably end up filing an anti-trust suit against CV. They must have reasons to hold off doing it for the time being.

Yes, I would like to see the Voom Channels. I had them on Dish Network and the content is excellent. My guess is Cablevision needs the distribution and money.

It has always only been uniformed speculation that Verizon can't get Rainbow Media channels because of its spat with Cablevision over MSG HD. The MSG HD issue is entirely separate, both in terms of ownership and in terms of legal rules, from the Rainbow Media properties.

I have never seen anyone put forth an ounce of verifiable evidence that Verizon hasn't added AMC HD et al because of a dispute with Cablevision.

I fully expect a deal with Rainbow Media for AMC, etc. sometime, hopefully early, next year. Whether Verizon will add Voom depends on if it's interested. I'm not sure Verizon would be comfortable with the amount of bandwidth it would take to light up all the Voom channels.

Honestly, IMO, the only cool VOOM channel was the Game one, where you could watch people play games.

I'm not really into that - but I thought it was amazing watching that on your big screen.

It all comes down to the number of potential viewers and the advertisers. As FiOS gains more subscribers, it makes things increasingly difficult for the competition to prohibit certain channels. At some point the benefit of holding back a station from a competitor to keep or gain customers is no longer more profitable than collecting the money from advertisers with more product exposure.

All of the stations will eventually be available to FiOS customers as long as the subscriber base continues to grow. Except maybe MSG. (I kid )

I was a Dish sub when they had Voom and all 10 channels were a total waste. Dish finally decided they could make better use of the bandwidth and dumped them.

I'm all for HD, but not Voom HD.

They might not be very good, but I don't believe that FiOS is close to the point where they have to make sacrifices to scavenge bandwidth. Kind of a double-edged sword.

If you read the other "cable" forums in here, one of the biggest issues is that there are too many channels and its too expensive. People want a la carte...and the ability to pick what channels they want.

Every channel added costs.......and I ain't convinced that is what the public wants...more channels more cost.

However it Verizons marketing ploy to keep adding channels but they need to be paid for...plus the cost of running fiber.

Is this the market and the time to launch a HIGH cost product?

I don't care about the VOOM channels. I'm surprised they are still around.

I'm not saying I agree, but if it's HD, Verizon seems to want to add it for marketing purposes. The content providers, when they aren't the actual company selling the TV service, always try and sell every channel they own in a package. That won't change.

If Disney added a new channel for every letter in the alphabet, I guarantee that all of the major cable/satellite/fiber systems would HAVE to make room on their lineup for all of them. If advertising revenue was to be the sole money-generator for all of these channels, TV would be a lot cheaper and we would have fewer selections, albeit with much higher quality shows.

People don't watch advertising like they used to. I stopped watching commericals in 1984 when I first started time shifting my TV watching. Now it's much easier to skip commericals than in the 1980's since now it's all digital. Every button press skips me ahead 30 seconds so I'm past the commercials in three seconds or less.
