AT&T Needs to get a clue.

I've had 6mbit DSL for 6 years and they haven't offered anything new until recently. They have had many years to build up their network and plan for growth. The "bandwidth hogs" argument is getting old. Their old AUP used to say that you wouldn't exceed the capacity of your line or generate more traffic than it can handle. Given that I get 4.9mbit down, and 608kbit up with the DSL overhead even if I kept my line burning 24/7 both directions I wouldn't even hit my max of what I "should" get.
They have no excuse for complaining now about bandwidth hogs when they are offering VDSL speeds up to 18mbit after getting their heads out of the sand with speed, only to stick it back in. They should advertise "hit your caps faster with higher speeds."
My calculations for what my line is capable of is 53.57gb down and 5.18gb up per day. And I have had all this potential since 2002. AT&T's calculations is I am worth at least $1400 to them if I burn my line 24/7 for a month. My monthly usage has hit up to 800gb at one time a few years back, and can average around 200-400gb/mo. I have always had this capability and this is what my usage looks like but varied per month for the past 6 years. Even though my line is "business class" static the same existed for the dynamic accounts.

They spent around $2 billion on other things, then they are making the customers pay, by announcing caps a short time later.

The only other one in my area is Charter so basically it is AT&T or nothing.

I'm so ticked off at AT&T about these usage CAPS! This is absolutely the wrong direction to be going. I can't wait until their plan fails and it will. This is pure greed and it will come back to bite them. I'm definately going to vote with my wallet as soon as these CAPS hit Austin, TX. I'll switch to Cricket wireless or simply surf using a Sprint PDA phone to get away from these rediculous companys that want to charge by the gigabyte. Timewarner and AT&T can go jump off a cliff.

You could consider getting a Multi-WAN Router, and order separate ADSL accounts. If your on Standard Phone wiring to the Hub outside you should be able to get plenty of bandwidth that way. Say 2 maybe 3 more accounts or more if your that data thirsty.

That's not how you solve the underlying problem, we should not have to do something as drastic as this. That's like saying, you can only get one tire from our store, so you should get the other 3 at 3 other stores.

They should just raise prices AND keep unlimited access, or don't bother to offer speeds above 1.5 mb if their network can't handle it.
