I am conducting similar search: what modem(s) will work on current qwest dsl phone (1.5, speed). Here's what I have found:
This site is a qwest memo (3-17-08) with chart: »www.qwest.com/internethelp/opsys···2-23.pdf
1)I installed a Arescom NetDSL 800 Modem (on their chart), it won't work. There is even a choice on the Qwest install CD software, but when you choose it, it says "no longer works, can't adjust the settings."
2)There is a discussion on this board here:
»DSL modem for Qwest DSL?? Considering my options...
Note the following highlights from that discussion: The supported modems are: Actiontec® GT701-wg Actiontec® 1520 and 1524 Intel® PRO/DSL 3200 Intel® PRO/DSL 2200 Cisco® 675/678 Arescom® NetDSL 800 Accton® DSL 1000
Qwest service. Granted, Qwest only officially supports a select few modems.
The trick is to make sure that you can update the VPI and VCI settings. If I remember correctly, it's 32 and 0 for Qwest.
Close. It's VPI 0, VCI 32, with a few exceptions
All CAP only modems are incompatible with new accounts at Qwest. The Cisco 675 (for example).
3)My conclusion (so far): The Arescom doesn't work and I doubt the Cisco 675 works. The Qwest support in India said "they are phasing out the Cisco 678"
4)My question: If I find a modem where I can set the VPI=0, VCI=32, am I good; or should is this so picky, that I stick with the Actiontecs on the list (I'm already skeptical of 1520 and 1524). What about Actiontec 724R (replaced 704series & it seemed to be designed for Verizon)? |

3)My conclusion (so far): The Qwest support in India said "they are phasing out the Cisco 678" I recently had disconnect problems and Qwest told me that they don't support the Cisco 678 any more, even though it's still listed on their web site - didn't even want to talk to me after they heard that's what I was running.
In frustration, I bought a Netgear DGN2000, and this thing rawks!!!

| the modems that Qwest currently sells are the Motorola c 3347 and Actiontec M1000
yes they are phasing out all other modems from their list online: »www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems/index.html
because of this, if you have problems with one of the other modems on the list, there is no repair process only a replacement process. When you are leasing the modem, they will replace it for free. If you purchased the modem, there is a chance for free warranty replacement if you purchased it through Qwest within the last year. Calling your Qwest tech support 888-777-9569 gets you the most accurate answer. |
