[TWC] HD TV Service Affect Internet Speed?

Hi, we recently upgraded our Time Warner Cable service to include HD content. We traded our old box in for a new HD DVR, which can record 2 channels at once (and also buffers 2 channels at once for pausing live TV).

I could be wrong, but it seems like our internet service has been slower and more buggy since upgrading. We use a Linksys wireless router, and it is in almost exactly the same place (we also replaced our TV with a rear projection LCD). The cable is split where it comes in, with one side going to cable box, and other to modem.

- Can having the HD DVR constantly recording or buffering 2 channels cause a bandwidth problem that would affect our internet connection?

Thanks!

No. The cable TV and cable internet "bandwith" are completely different.

With that said, the splitter you have in place may be causing modem problems. Post your modem specs here so we can see what they are. Get them by going to 192.168.100.1

Internet won't be affected as what is said in the post above me, it is on a different frequency level. Compare it to you listening to 105.1 FM and 103.4 FM in two rooms, and your internet coming in on 98.7 FM..... regardless of the volume of the other two radios, your 98.7 will come in just as clear (or just as bad) as with those radios turned off.

What could be the case is that your signal levels overall are too low, but then you would also see that in the picture quality on your HDTV. If your signal level is good, you can hookup 10 HDTV's for all Time Warner cares, and have 10 DVR's recording 20 programs from 20 different HDTV channels, and your internet would still not be affected. (Although with 10 TV's you may need a signalbooster or two on strategic locations as you are splitting of 10 times).
