I hear you on the smaller caps. 50GB is pretty puny. |

| reply to Max010101 Maybe they should just throw away the speed tiers and just offer 18/2.
My first employer back in 1995 was an ISP and he offered full speed to businesses so they had available bandwidth (back then a Full T1 instead of a partial), but just paid for their usage.
If Wave is going to go to a usage only model, speed tiers make no sense. Instead make it all 18/2 but have packages like 10GB, 50GB, 100GB, 300GB, 500GB etc, and if you go over you pay 50 cents a GB or whatever.
If it was like Comcast with 250GB across the board, speed tiers would make sense.
Also, there are going to be some angry customers next month when they find out that with their 6.0 connection they went over and incurred heavy overage charges. They really need to disclose this stuff and be CLEAR. Wave is clearly incompetent. Choose your model, stick with it and make it CLEAR |

| reply to Max010101 I did some research, but I don't have a LAN line for the house so this is what I got when I checked my Address and I used my Ex Girlfriends Phone # because she lives around the corner...
The Plans I have available for Aircloud and DSL Extreme are these...
AirCloud:
Network #1 Speed Description Price 384-768/128-384Kbps Basic Web User Starting At... $49.00 384-1500/128-384Kbps Basic Web User Starting At... $59.00
(Kind of Crappy Speeds)
DSL Extreme I added a picture. I am leaning towards the Express DSL with 1.5 MB/ps which sucks for speed but it beats Air Clouds slow speed. DSL Extreme is 2 Bars for Signal on Express So I am not sure how good that is. I am near the Astound/SBC/and Comcast Main Offices which is where the speed would be great but I can't have caps due to me working out of home with School and Work.
I would like to get about 3mb-6mbs at the least with unlimited to try to make it easier to get more work done.
The address I have been using to find these things out is 35 Adobe Dr, Concord, Ca 94520
since its nearby. |

since its nearby. The speed packages are exactly the same. Aircloud's 384-1.5 is the same as DSL Extreme's 1.5. they include the range of speeds because DSL is not guaranteed and you can get "up to" depending on distance from CO and line conditions. the price difference is huge because you're going with dhcp where Aircloud is business class and gives static IP. Try the same package for DSL Extreme under those conditions and it'll be more. If you don't need static then DHCP is way to go.
Once you get DSL they can see if they can get a good signal and can most likely bump up your speed. Those pre qualifier databases are bunk. Jerry Richardson from Aircloud uses his own DSL and lives farther away from the CO than I do and gets 3.0-6.0 but when i prequalify it only lists 1.5-3.0. He has assured me that I can get 3-6. The 3-6 business account is around 90 bucks. pricey but it's business class with local support from a Concord based small company. I think they get their backhaul from covad or even dsl extreme LOL. You can't go wrong either way.
Good luck |

Choose your model, stick with it and make it CLEAR They will almost certainly let existing users keep their exiting unlimited plans for as long as they want. Why do you think they started the 3GB/day cap on downloads??? It had nothing to do with network issues. It was simply to force high volume users to call in and switch to one of the new metered plans. 95% of users won't even notice the 3GB cap and therefore won't have any reason to change. Wave could care less if these users are on the new metered plans.
The new plans are intended for new customers and the small percentage of high volume customers that can't survive with 3 GB/day limit.

| reply to Max010101 Reporting that daily caps were not in place for the duration of this weekend. Speeds were fluctuating between 4-6mbps and would reach the plan cap of 10 in the evenings. Seems Astound has rescinded the caps for the time being. Perhaps the roll out of the monthly usage caps is in place or Drew's story and customer complaints hit a nerve.
Now to hope that they have not put the monthly caps in place yet or have not altered existing plans. |

@sbcglobal.net | reply to Max010101 So Astound I could get a 300GB Plan with speed and no throttling? in Concord, Ca 94520??
So DSL Extreme would give me Unlimited Usage and Astound would give me Speed but have a cap? |

| reply to Max010101 Looks like Wave may have also made some network upgrades in Sacramento area. Getting 18 Mbps consistently this morning. Even getting 18 Mbps from NewsDemon.
But I think they are still throttling upload speeds at 1 Mbps. Anyone seeing better upload speeds.

| reply to Max010101 This is Wave's response to my question:
Information on the new internet options should be posted tomorrow on our website or possibly late this evening. The 300 GB package will be linked to a download speed of 18 Mbps. Initially, High Speed 18 will be the only internet tier with a data transfer quota. Later this spring, quotas will be in place for other speeds. Quotas will be posted on our website as well, along with fees for additional data used over the limits. Thank you. |

| They actually already have the new rate card listed up on the site. At least for my area: »www.wavebroadband.com/articles/S···Card.pdf
Also got a letter in the mail saying they were raising rates on cable overall, but you could lock in without getting the increase if you go with one of the new bundles.
Sounds like this was all planned awhile ago... ugh. |

| reply to Max010101 Well when did all this happen...It all started for me about a week ago. Where I used to get 1.2MB/sec (10 Mbps downstream)I started getting about half that. I have called tech support about 6 times but because the speed tests work out they say it is not their problem. I think I am being capped somewhere. I connect to servers to upload and download my 3d animations (a hobby of mine) and for the last 6 months I have had perfect speeds (1.2MB/sec) and now I get 150k/sec if I am lucky. Not sure what to do, but I think it has to do with some of these changes. I have contacted the admin of the server who is a good friend of mine and he ran some tests and says that I am the only one who has experienced a slowdown in throughput. Even the movie trailers from apple are impacted (500k/sec now compared with 1.2MB/sec) What do you all think....coincidence? |
