Back again, Can they legally just slow you down after 3G per day, give you no credit and not even tell you. I have no problem paying for what I use if they are going to a speed/usage plan like this in two or three months, but with the situation presently I get 10M down speed per day until I reach 3G and then my speed goes to 1G down speed. I guess what I am saying is I'm paying for a plan that is now restricting me with no choice BUT still paying a prem price for it. CAN THEY LEGALLY DO THIS TO THE COMSUMER. By the way I have been a customer for over ten years and I'm sure they had no clause in the contract back then |

| reply to Max010101 They have slowed me down without telling me also. I thought I was having router problems because when I plugged in directly to my Modem I was back to my regular speed. I called customer service and they told me it had to be the router also. What type of company would not tell their customer service department ( their front line to customer) what they are doing. I called AT&T today and am taking their full package internet, cable, and telephone. I have been with Starstream for over 13 years, Wave did us no favors here in the Rocklin California market when they purchased Starstream Cable. This is a small community and word will get out.....If they are going to come out with a new rate plan that is speed and usage billed they should not of just slowed us down here in Rocklin without telling us and then after getting us pissed off, tell us about a usage type plan. I do not mind paying for what I use but not they way this company approaches it. |

| reply to Max010101 Hopefully someone who knows about this stuff can comment. I'm located in Concord California, my ISP is Astound owned by Wave
If you see many TCP pauses exceeding 80-100ms then it is likely that the connection test is spending more time waiting for data than moving data. If the TCP pause pattern looks very symmetrical and regular then it may indicate that there is a throttling process managing/restricting the data flow. If the TCP pause pattern is more erratic and variable then it would indicate network delays as a result of congestion or other network problems. |

| reply to Mad in Rocklin I am having the same problem. I have the 8mb/1mb service from wave in the roseville area and ever since November my speeds always seem to drop to about 1.5mb exactly. If I switch routers my speeds to back to 8mb and then 1hour later it will drop to 1.5mb like clock work. If I plug my modem directly into my computer my speeds go back to 8mb and again they drop to 1.5mb. Wave is doing something and it really sucks. |

| reply to Max010101 I just signed up for Astound in Concord, CA this week and found out that this capping is real. I downloaded some TV shows from usenet and after a few hours the connection capped at 150kbps.
I have not done solid testing to determine the limit but I would assume 3GB in 24 hours sounds about right. Given that I pay for a 10mbps connection I could cap out in under an hour of downloading and then I'm capped at 150kbps for 24 hours? This is unacceptable use policy and is not detailed anywhere on their site or literature for service or user agreements. From what I've read this capping applies to ALL transfers other than HTTP i.e. usenet, torrent, FTP, P2P, video streaming. I don't know about you, but I can cap 3GB just watching online TV shows since I don't use cable service.
I thought Comcast was horrid in their business practices of 250GB caps but under this system you'd be lucky to get 125GB a month of actual data through the pipe. This move is obviously intended to force the consumer to stop using the internet for video content and force them to either pay for on demand services or HD cable services.
Astound fails the consumer market with these practices and I will be canceling the service. I just hope there's no early termination fee as I can't find any mention of it anywhere. I'll be switching back to a local internet company that supplies business class service with no metering. Any time you get a company that has a conflict of interest with TV and Internet services you'll end up with this kind of garbage that we are seeing. |

@surewest.net | reply to Max010101 heh. Glad to see some of you canceling. All I know is that if you can get on a 6Meg+ DSL or fiber connection, you are MUCH better off. No restrictions and speed is ALWAYS 100% no matter what you do. The way it should be. |

@surewest.net | reply to Max010101 no... AT&T DOES NOT CAP their DSL. In fact, I have never heard of capping or throttling of ANY DSL provider. It will be 100% speed 24/7 |

Was pointed to this thread by the Front Page story: »Wave Broadband Institutes 3GB Daily Cap?
The first page of this thread is suggesting that the throttling is for certain kinds of traffic, others are posting that everything gets throttled after 3 GB. So what's the real story? -- Robb Topolski -= funchords.com =- Hillsboro, Oregon -- KJ7RL ...just some more roadkill on the Information Superhighway... |
