[Help] Info tags below pics in threads

How and where do y'all get the info listed below the pics you post in threads?

For example:

" NIKON D60
44mm 1/60th F5.3 ISO200 "

TIA,
Paul

It picks it up from the camera automatically. I think it's the EXIF data.

If you edit the photo, then save it, I don't think it saves that information with it.

Upload a raw photo and see what it does.

Like this?

EDIT: Oops, looks like the GIMP stripped the EXIF...

It's the EXIF data your camera writes as metadata to the photo when you take it. That info can often be stripped by simpler editing programs but is usually preserved by software intended for use with digital photography.

Thanks Paul - Yes, a very nice place to dive or snorkel indeed.

As far as your question is concerned. You do not need to turn anything on. For instance, simply take a photo and upload it to this thread. It will show up with the photo once it's all uploaded. Try it..

Nothing to turn on. Take a picture, pull it right from the card and upload it here without making any changes and you'll see it.

It works!

Does it only work on this board or does it work on all boards?

Well, it works on this board, as you now know.

As for it working on other boards, it all depends on if they choose to display the EXIF data. Some boards do and some don't. It's all up to whomever runs the board.

I know on Vista (and probably XP), if you right-click and go to Properties, then scroll down on the details tab, you see this information as well.

You can use an EXIF reader like Opanda to read the EXIF info too.

»opanda.com/

Also if you use "Save for Web" in PS it will remove the EXIF.
