Re: Advice

Their is a limited choice of hardware available for what you seek to do.
However, I have one of these: »www.lotusfoundations.com/product···ware.php
That I believe will be your ultimate solution. Albeit that you could build/buy your own server and deploy NITIX [Ed now called "Lotus Foundations server operating system"] software.

If you are interested, contact the company and enquire if it is possible to pickup one of the older 'Micro' products. They are discontinued but just as snazzy and considerably cheaper.

As for an ADSL modem, you'll ideally want one that will pass the WAN IP through to the LAN side and allow the server's firewall to process the incoming. I use a D-Link DSL-300T

Just a note on load balancing, you may be confusing that with load sharing. Balancing would require a line and servers between the ISP's. Sharing is what you and I have that also offers redundancy and diversity - which in my mind, is probably more important.

Hi there I am after some advice on what kit I need to buy to make my system work.

I have two internet connections.

Cable (virgin media/telewest) single IP

ADSL (Bethere Broadband) multiple IP's

The one is a fail safe connection for when the other goes down. Currently the cable is primary.

What I want to do is have both lines combined into one router that does my firewalling and routing and all the rest. I also want to make use of the multiple IP's that the ADSL provides so I can run my webmail and rumpus webftp client from with in the office.

What I have is a Vigor 2910VG that has the cable modem plugged into it. I have the adsl modem a thompson one that was provided by bethere setup and plugged into the vigor.

At current the work fine as auto load balance or fail over. Although the adsl modem has some firewall in it that I can not turn off so it keep blocking incoming traffic (I want to get rid of it).

So what I need is to find out what modem to buy that can let the traffic in and out on the adsl side with out blocking anything and let my vigor do the work. Or what Modem can I buy that will work as and adsl modem and let me plug the cable in as a secondary or primary connection.

If I were to replace the vigor I would need the new modem to be able to do vpn log in as well.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great. I was thinking along the lines of a new 3com modem as I never have problems with there kit, but could not see any modems that they currently do.
