said by Authority :Come on people, this is inevitable economics. There simply isn't enough bandwidth on the planet for everyone to use their connection to maximum capacity at all times. The current pricing models were created at a time when no one could have used that much bandwidth... no that P2P applications can and do utilize the full connection a new paradigm is needed. Electricity isn't unlimited... water isn't unlimited... why do people seem to think bandwidth should be? I'm happy to pay for what I use, You're overlooking one simple fact: All internet accounts are already capped simply by virtue of the fact that your speed dictates how much you're able to download.
In other words, if you pay for 6Mb service, you can only download at 6Mb. This means that even if you were to download 24/7, there would still be a finite amount that you could download in a month. Granted, it's quite a bit, but there's still a limit. You can't go over this limit, no matter what you do, because your speed is fixed.
What AT&T is effectively saying is "We sold you a level of service that we can't support and that we knew we couldn't support when we sold it to you. So now we're going to impose an even lower limit and charge you extra if you use the service you pay for." |
