[trouble] Verizon e-mail

I currently use Apple Mail and or Thunderbird in conjunction with my Verizon e-mail account. Lately I have been getting pop-up windows asking for my Verizon password. I have not changed anything in years. When I re-enter the password, the pop window comes back & asks for it again. Very frustrating! I called Verizon & they said I should probably use their site to send my e-mails.

Can anyone help me on this??

Thanks,
Bob

Re: [trouble] Verizon e-mail

yes, I recently began having this same problem for one of my accounts in T'bird, but not the other. After some searching around other support forums on the 'net, it turns out to be a simple fix. It is believed to be an anomoly that occurs during the update to T'bird version 2.0.0.18 which was recently pushed out, but neither the Mozilla official support forums nor Verizon phone support personnel seem to have a clue how it happens or how to fix it.

In the T'bird top menu bar, click on "Tools", "Account Settings", and then in the dialog box, click on "Server Settings" of the offending account. In the "Security Settings" area in middle of the ensuing dialog box, make sure the "Use secure connection" is set to "Never" and the "Use secure authentication" checkbox is UNchecked. This may sound counter to the VZ official instructions, but the official instructions refer to server authentication being required for OUTGOING mail only. In T'bird, that feature is taken care of in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" section at the very bottom of the Account Settings list.
