Weird Closed-Captioning Issue

I am deaf so I rely on closed-captioning to watch TV. I always have it on...the ones that my tv provides, that is. This morning I was watching tv, and I noticed another set of closed-captions underneath the ones provided by my tv. I figured out that it was captions that were provided by FIOS, by going to Menu -> Settings. I turned it off, and now everything is ok, but how did it get on in the first place? It wasn't on when I started watching tv this morning, and I didn't touch anything or change any settings.

You probably hit the "*" button on the remote by mistake, it turns captions on and off on the FiOS DVR or STB.

I saw that button and I pressed it after I saw the double-captioning issue. It did not turn it off, and it doesn't turn it on when I press it now, either.

No idea then. On mine it shuffles from Off to CC1, CC2, CC3, CC4, CC5, CC6, and back to Off.

I have the old Motorola remote and the Input button changes CC also.

Mine does the same, at the top right of the screen, as an overlay. It's an HD DVR
