Re: [ fiber tech] Does Verizon Fios cap upload If you'd like to try a real world upload test, I can show you what I used. The test is free and only takes a few minutes to set everything up.
The first thing I did was grab a large test file to use. I have been using the Optimum Online 512 MB test file that you can grab from their FTP site. Any large, compressed file will work if you want to use one of your own.

Next, I grabbed a 30-day free trial version of DU Meter.

After installing the DU Meter application, I ran it and opened a "New Stopwatch" by right clicking and selecting this in the context menu from the system tray icon. For the stopwatch settings, I prefer to force it always on top with the data transfer rate units set for bit per second.
I navigate to the following test site:
»hydra.nac.uci.edu/indiv/franklin···oad.html
Now, with a 20Mbps upload, just entering one file to upload will probably not hit your maximum capacity. I can only manage to reach about 12-13Mbps when uploading a single file from the test site linked to above. I have to open two sessions with the above upload test site. Choose two different files, one for each instance of the upload site you have opened in your browser. Just copy and rename your large test file so you can have multiple versions if you only have one file.
Next, I select the "Send File" button on the upload test sites that I am using, and then I immediately select the "Start" button on my DU Meter stopwatch. You should see an accurate measure of your upload throughput while the files are being sent to the upload test site.
You may have to open multiple test pages and upload more files as the limitation on the test site might not be able to handle your full speed with only a couple of test files. Two works for me.
Here are my results using two files with my FiOS 50/20 connection (67.8 MB's in 28 seconds):
 Verizon 50/20 Sustained Upload
Here is the same test using my Comcast 16/2 connection with PowerBoost. With a bigger file, the performance for my Comcast connection dropped since the PowerBoost cut off after 40MB's (66.2 MB's in 3 minutes 39.3 seconds):
Comcast 16/2 (with PowerBoost) Sustained Upload
Edit: For non-business home use, you can install a free copy of the Visualware MySpeed lite test to your computer. Their socket test is the only consistent test I found for my connection. It seems to work for most FiOS users. It's the same one that worked for you, but installed locally instead of online.
