2 edits | I Need The Right Codecs To Play AVI Files With WMP11
I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 x64. I have a bunch of AVI files that will not play in WMP 11. I wanted to download the Divx Codec, but it won't work with x64. So I Googled it, and found »shark007.net/x64components.html which is supposed to work, and downloaded version 1.5.6, and they still will not play. I even went to the Developers forum and he did not know how to get them to work. Does anyone know what codecs to download that will work? Thanks.
Also, I just looked at my file extension associations in the Control Panel and cannot even find AVI as an extension. Could that be the problem? -- "That Which Does Not Kill Me Makes Me Stronger"! |

| Screwy AVI encode maybe? Test one... convert it to avi with something like SUPER and see if it will play.
Don't do 64bit, so I cannot help on that front. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to lordpuffer Sometimes WMP "forgets" things. This works on 32-bit versions, and will probably work on yours:
1. On the menu, go to "Tools", "Options" 2. Pick the "File Types" tab. 3. Find .avi and if it is NOT checked, check it. OK your way out. 4. If it IS checked, UNcheck it, OK your way out, then come back in and check it, and OK your way out again.
That should do it. |

| reply to lordpuffer Just install the K-Lite Codec Pack »www.free-codecs.com/download/K_l···pack.htm and be done with it.
I ran into this same issue a few days ago. I hate dealing with codecs. -- Rule #62: Don't take yourself so damn seriously! |

1 edit | I took a look at it (K-Lite Codec Pack) but it doesn't say whether or not it works on a 64 bit system. Do you know if it does?
Oh...Thanks owlyn, but my player does not have those options. -- "That Which Does Not Kill Me Makes Me Stronger"! |
