1 edit | McAfee Security Suite from Comcast . Is it ok ? My anti virus is expiring and i'm thinking about free McAfee from Comcast. I haven't seen any posts in awhile. Is everyone finding it is running ok now?

@comcast.net | mcafee is a no no in my book.. its HIGH on system sorces, iow it uses alot of your cpu/memory so its a system hog.. and it doesnt even do a good job.. like mentioned avg or avast will do ALOT better | |

The newest Norton's was actually one of the better ones. I think McAfee was average. | |

| Thanks for all the replies. I asked the question because I had McAfee several years ago and it slowed my computer way down and when I tried to get rid of it it was a mess. I was hoping something had changed. I have 2 grandkids that are very active steam players also. I think i'll give Avast a try first then change to Mcafee if that doesnt work.

I agree. Before I never used any AV program except the Housecall.com online scanner until one day:
After I cleared my internet history I opened Internet Explorer to Yahoo.com as my home page. When I checked my history a unknown IP address would show up along with the Yahoo.com. It turned out I was sending a file in my temp folder named "abc123.pid" to this unknown address. I went to Housecall.com online scanner to find out I was clean but I was still infected with some sort of virus. I then went to Norton's online scanner that scans and tells you what it finds but don't clean. It told me I had like 3 infections that Housecall didn't detect. After investigating the infections I found more info about what my computer was infected with. I searched for "free antivirus programs" and AVG free was first on the list. I installed AVG free and it cleaned out all the infections I had. | |
