| Top 10 Gamining of Speed Tests by Small ISPs?
If you do some analysis of Speedtest samples in »/archive you will notice that the average number of speed test Samples vs. the ISPs published broadband Customer Base is about 5,000:1. There are a few anomalies that someone should look into. They are:
VideoTron has ~1800 samples of which most are anonymous. At 5000:1 this would make there customer base about 9M which is 9X the reality of their 1M subscribers. Similar anonymous dominance from Mountain Cablevision and Source Cable and Surewest
You could probably do the math in a few others in the Top 20 as they are so small that only a few anonymous gamed speed tests will put them on top. |

I'll bet the top tests are on such fiber, at 100 Mbps symmetric.
SureWest? Yeah, they actually have the speeds posted with their 50 Mbit fiber. Not sure about Comcast though... |

| Custom / dedicated commercial offerings are different than the residential broadband listed in this archive (or suppose to be). Otherwise every broadband player would be listing their GigE and 10GE dedicated commercial customers.
It is pretty obvious that these very small broadband providers are gaming these Top 10 tests. A little looking into it would probably show that the tests are done from the same set of IP addresses either dedicated to or employees gaming this data.
The #1 and #2 ISP don't even rate a real forum or a listing in the Speed distribution graphs. »/archive?f=g |
