Re: Congratulations

He will be lucky if he is not reprimanded by Comcast for doing this on company time.

(You know there is some supervisor out there thinking, "Hey, we are paying this joker to work, not 'play around' with company equipment.")

I am not surprised if that really does happen.

Oh trust me, politics is a very complicated animal. If his supervisor is high enough up the totem pole, and ignornant enough, I'm sure the moment that he stepped through the door that he could get fired. Not on the grounds of saving a life or using company equipment, but on the grounds that he could have gotten hurt and that would have been big $$$ for him (from comcast).

Well, what if one of the people fell off his ladder? I'm sure the company could have gotten sued.

In the good ole days at Bell something like this would get you what I think was called the 'Silver Vale' award and then brother you were pretty much bullet proof the rest of your career-- but that WAS the good ole days.

Aren't there "good Samaritan" laws in place?
You'd think the moment he saw the fire and started to help, he was indemnified.

dunno if we have them at the federal level and i think its up to each state to pass such. i know not every state has them because there are cases where people are scared to help those who need it after something bad thanks to the sue happy nation we are.

imo we do need federal laws that make those helping immune to suit.

Isn't he protected by a good samaritan law? Where you're required to help someone within the best of your abilities, and you are protected from being sued for trying to help someone? I know some countries and states have laws like that, and frankly it's sad that it's gotten to the point where they had to make those laws, both for the people who had to be forced to help and those who would sue people for saving their life.

Good Samaritan laws in the US vary by state, and even where they exist, they provide little cover to good Samaritans from lawsuits because it is up to a court to decide whether the helper has exhibited regular negligence(which may be covered) and gross negligence which isn't. »www.answers.com/topic/good-samar···doctrine

There is only 1 Federal Good Samaritan law, and that protects from lawsuit those who donate food to charitable organizations. And even that wouldn't protect you from getting sued. It only makes it harder for someone to sue you and win. »www.p2pays.org/ref/12/11822.htm

Which they need now more than ever, given the fact that they have a very low customer service rating.
