| Most of my friends love the gadget portion of the phone. Internet, maps, apps, etc.
But, most say the phone portion is crappy.
I had a Palm Treo for about 4 days. I HATED it. It was too big, too clunky, and didn't do the things I needed, mainly e-mail, well.
I wanted an iPhone when it first came out, but I wanted to stay with Verizon. Now, I think I'll be going with a Crackberry when my contract is up in May. Not necessarily the Storm, but something with push e-mail & a QWERTY keyboard. -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

A friend has an iPhone and it's pretty nice. What I hate is trying to help them get songs onto it. iTunes has to be one of the worst programs I've encountered (for usability) in a long time. -- »www.wwiivehicles.com

1 edit | reply to N3OGH You are an anomaly in not finding happy iPhone users.
All the studies I've seen have iPhone near the top of the list, soundly beating smartphone competitors like RIM.

| "You are an anomaly in not finding happy iPhone users.".
It could be that all of the people I know that have iPhones are also co workers...
I don't deny the iPhone is both well liked and popular, I was just citing my personal experience.
I certainly don't doubt your chart, especially the rating on the Palm. I hated that thing. -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

Sure, Apple can make ONE nice phone, but can they make 10 or 20 really good ones like RIM, LG or Nokia? |

| reply to Dogfather While 79 percent is impressive, this survey is not comprehensive. It first states it used 3,597 consumers. However, there are several flaws with this survey, which make me not take this data at face value.
It should be first noted, the Iphone was released in July 2007 and this survey was done in march. That is ample time for someone to test out their phone, but this leads to one major problem and FLAW.
Of those people surveyed, I did not see a qualifier on time of ownership. Maybe 2000 of these people owned their Iphone for a few weeks? It's like buying a shiny new car, it's always great when you first get it, but constant use tends to show the major bugs. People are on their new item "High". This is a MAJOR oversight on this survey which lends a great doubt to it's accuracy. A good Pre Qualifier on this empirical data would have been a minimum ownership. I did not see this. So 79 percent being happy, while impressive, is something I fail to take at face value. Re-conduct this survey now, and see what the data shows is my thought. |

| reply to Dogfather That may be true, but I think a more realistic comparison would be all Apple phones vs. all Blackberry phones, or all Nokia phones, etc. What everyone fails to realize is that the iPhone is ONE model of phone, whereas BB or Nokia puts out dozens of models.
It's akin to saying the Explorer has sold more than the Tahoe or Suburban or Trailblazer; sure it has, but does that mean Ford sells more than Chevy? Of course not. Comparing one model to a group of models just doesn't make sense. |

| reply to PolarBear I must disagree. I recently stopped using a BlackBerry and went back to an incredibly flaky PocketPC phone -- and I'm much happier. Blackberries stink, largely because they don't actually do anything (except bounce e-mail through Canada and display it in plain text).

Comparing one model to a group of models just doesn't make sense. Maybe because this is the first phone Apple has made. Kind of hard to compare a whole line of Apple phones when there is basically 2 of them. |

2 edits | reply to PolarBear said by PolarBear :Yes, we've had that debate. All I have to say is, the term "Crackberry" exists for a reason. Yes. That reason is that they were the first to get mobile text messaging mostly right. People are no more addicted to them, specifically, as than they are addicted to TiVo or AIM over the other products in those categories. (I think you mistake people's addiction to communication for an addiction to a particular, rather lousy, product line.) And RIM/BlackBerry been resting their huge haunches on those laurels for many years now. It's long past time for them to disappear. I didn't expect it would be Apple to make that happen though.
Edit: To your last post, no, my Blackberry was several years newer than my old PocketPC phone, and it still stunk up the room. It felt like going from an airy forest to a prison. Yes, I've seen and worked on the even newer models and am still unimpressed.
-- B
P.S. WindowsCE/PocketPC is still a mess in its own right, but I'll take it over BlackBerry and Java any day.
Edit2: Word choice struck.
