Westell 9100EM

I just had FIOS tv installed and they replaced my WRT54G with this westell router. The tv works fine but I had to search the forums to get port forwarding to work. Verizon says they won't support those features. However, I still have two ports that do not work. They are two i/p cameras one wireless and one wired. They work fine within the lan but I can not get them to work over the internet. I used the same settings that I used on the WRT54 but no luck on the new router. I put the WRT 54 back in place and they both work fine. Four other ports that I use such as remote desktop, ftpserver etc work fine. I must be overlooking some weird setting on the Westell. Westell will not help because the router was made specifically for Verizon. Does anyone have any idea where to look?

What ports are you trying to forward?

The ports that work are 21,1723,3389 and 8080. The two ports that do not work are 1026 and 1030. These were assigned by me in the setup of the cameras and have worked for several years.

There should not be anything different about forwarding those ports.

Id take a GUESS and suggest you make sure you forward both UDP and TCP for the cameras ...

I agree that there should be no difference in those two ports...
Good point regarding UDP and TCP. The Linksys router will allow you to make a selection for both. However, the Westell will not give you that option. My thought is that I will make two entries, one for UDP and one for TCP. For the time being however, I had to get this thing working, so I reinstalled my WRT54 and used a lan port to a lan port on the Westell. At least the Linksys lets my cameras work and the Westell sends the guide and VOD data to the STB. When I get the chance, I will try opening both TCP and UDP for the cameras. The real sad part of this is the fact that Verizon will not support any activity on the router that does not have an effect on the TV STB. Westell says call Verizon.

I tore the whole thing apart and tried both UDP and TCP together and separately. Neither of those two ports will work from the internet. I just put the old WRT54G back on line and everything is fine. For now the Verizon 9100EM stays in the box. It isn't worth any more of my time. Maybe when they finally let me join the TV forum, I will be able to get some help from Verizon.
Thanks for looking

I also live in Plano (75023) and have been waiting for the new routers to deploy before getting the TV service. It was my understanding that the Westell router would support the wireless N standard. However, Verizon has just told me that they have "crippled" the router to only support the G standard. Can you verify this?

FWIW, they are very reluctant to replace my old Actiontec (Verizon supplied) with the new router - to the point of losing the sale.

Thanks,
Harvey

Although wireless "N" is an available option from the manufacturer, as has been stated numerous times in this forum, VZ did not elect that option.

The wireless N standard is an option from Westell that Verzion has elected to not pay for. So I wouldn't call it crippled.

It's my understanding that they're doing a similar thing with the GPON ONT by not getting the gigabit option for the CAT-5 output.

More Fiber, keyboards - thanks for the info. I obviously missed the comments about Verizon only opting for G. Now to see if they will give me the new router.

BTW, does anyone know if DHCP reservations work correctly with Westell firmware?

Thanks,
Harvey

Can you post your port forwarding screenshot on remote desktop. I've try to open tcp/udp port 3389 with no luck.
Thanks,

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the Westell Router in Plano. I have been trying to get one for months after a tech told us that they would have them back in October, but haven't seen them...

They supposedly are deploying them in Plano. I have a TV install to my current setup scheduled for Dec. 23 and had requested they replace the ActionTec with the Westell router. Initially, the people I talked to at the normal support number would not O.K. the new router.

I then called the number given in Verizon's weekly fios tv flyer that I keep getting - they said no problem. I made a point of telling them that if the installer showed up without the Westell, the install would be canceled. We shall see what happens next week.

Could you please PM me that phone number, and let me know how it goes next week?
