The Aspire One is even cheaper... :)

The Aspire One is normally $500
Actually the Aspire One is dropping in price. It goes for around $350 these days for the higher-end versions. I just bought mine (arriving today!) for $250. This is the non-fancy version because I intend to mod it. Even with the additional parts (SanDisk Extreme IV CompactFlash to replace internal SSD (too slow), CF-to-ZIF adapter, 1GB RAM, SD card for additional capacity) it's just around $350.

OK, aside from being excited about my new toy - the point is that this Netbook can be had fully loaded for $350 these days. Why on earth would you want to sign a $1440 contract to save $250?!

Might be a deal if you're going to buy a data plan anyway.. but something tells me the price in 20 months is going to be lower than $60/month so you won't be saving anything.

On the upside- it's good to see Netbooks becoming mainstream. It seems like a very neat little device, and the more popular - the more hardware parts and mods we're going to see. even as-is with an SSD-based Aspire One you can easily get 3-9 hours of battery (depending on the size of the battery) in a computer weighing just over 2 lbs. I intend to spend a lot of time in Japan next year, and Tokyo is a big place if you don't drive. I need 24x7 access to the internet which I can easily take with me - and this is it! (why 24x7? I run a VoIP company and want to have access in case of server problems)

True though I think as soon as nettablets get down to the sub-$500 range they will quickly kill these - I just got this one: »www.mobilx.hu/index.php?target=p···54&sl=EN

[BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. You just want what you want and don't care to factor in what is right or true. Your perspectives are un-American, and deserve far more ridicule than I'm prepared to pile on them.

You're probably right - if they get them down in price enough. But since this is an entirely new market there is plenty of room for both. Either way we're going to see rapid developments in both IMHO. They're becoming mainstream which is a good thing.
