No, it still wouldn't be an OK deal because it would only make sense if, beyond wanting the air card you would also A) want an Acer Aspire One B) you would want to use specifically AT&T WITHOUT any regular account for $60/mo (how does that make sense?) and C) you want a 2-yr long contract, all this for ~$1600-1700 with tax.
In this case you're right, it's a "great" deal. 
I prefer a stand alone Air Card instead of teathering because you are not tied to a single device. You don't get it: it's a SIM card, not a device.
As a matter of fact this gives you more freedom than any air card: you can shove it to any SIM-based device as well as into usb adapters etc.  --
