[FireFox] Slow page loading (sometimes)

Not sure what the problem is. I'm running Fx 3.0.4. Mostly I have problems with pages with a lot of content. Two good examples are:

»Creative Expressions #111

»Artify #214

This problem is not just graphics, very long pages with text only will have the same result.

Sometimes they load fine but more times than not they will take a very long time to load and sometimes will not load completely.

I have tried this in safe mode also with negative results.

I have Grail Knight See Profile's tweaks for Fx 3 in the user js file. They have helped with most other sites and pages.

Other testing includes:
IE 8 beta, Runs faster but will still bog somewhat.
Opera v10, Slightly faster but not much.
Slim Browser, Fastest, very little slows it down (which makes me believe its not a hardware issue).

My ISP is 15/768 (cable) and is pretty consistent.
This happens at at all times of the day or night, peak usage doesn't seem to be a factor.

I'm running Vista HP 64bit, 4GHz CPU, 8Gb ram, 8800GT graphics card (so I don't think its the hardware, but I could be wrong).

Anyone have any ideas?

Both those pages worth of images load moderately fast for me but still take time. You are looking at some good sized images so I am not surprised about that.

Do you have your Fx browser set to resize images or not? That will also effect the rendering speed.

Type about:config in your address bar (Enter)

Filter to: browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing

Double-click the value to change it to true

Now go back and see if your pages with images loads faster. They should. If you do not mind Fx resizing the images leave that setting at true or change it back.

Glad you like the tweaks.

Checked on that and that value was set to true.

Try the opposite and see what happens.

IMO the rendering taking a bit of time is due to the quantity of images on those pages and the size of the images.

On the pages I visited before, they loaded quickly. I tried it on one of the older threads. It took a long time to load and 4 or 5 of the images never did load (just the "click here" text showed) even though the bar on top indicated the page loaded completely.

This also does it on long text only pages.

Did you start Fx in Safe Mode to take extensions out of the loop to see if that helps?

Have you tweaked your Internet Connection itself not just the browser?

Yes I tried safe mode, no difference.

Running Vista, nothing to tweak.

Other then trying a beta build of Fx I do not know what more to offer other then the usual stuff.

Flush DNS, Clear Cache,

There are always connections to tweak even in Vista no matter what MS wants us to believe.

Both of your links take me 30 - 40 seconds to load completely with 15 Mb DL speed. Most other websites load in a fraction of that time. That's a lot of big images. I think your setup is fine and it's the website configuration.

Perhaps you are right. I'm just going to alternate browsers depending on what I'm doing.
Thanks for your help GK and IndianaBill.

Just tried those links.. each one took around 3-5 seconds to fully load for me. I've got a 15mb/3mb connection. Using FF 3.0.4.

If it is any consolation, mine does the same thing.
The first link took 26 seconds to load and about 6 images did not render.
The second link took 30 seconds and 1 image did not render.
I have also been battling some new tabs never loading. I need to close it and center click a couple times quite often.

Just an update. I redid Firefox. Uninstalled everything, program and profile.
Reinstalled Firefox 3.0.4 and started putting everything back one thing at a time (including GK's tweaks). I went to put in the download manager but it was not compatible with this version so I used MrTech to make it compatable. My page loading went straight down the dumper. I uninstalled it and its now running really fast.

I cant get the little smilies to post though.
