Kudos to Cablevision

They are the MSO that is always at the forefront of technology and they aren't afraid to spend money to give their customers a good value.

They are also at the forefront of raising rates.

Are you kidding?

Optimum Online service was $39.95 for cable subscribers in 2002 ... Here, in 2008, it's $44.95. And that's IF you don't have the Triple Play.

I wouldn't call that excessive at all... a $5 rate hike in 6+ years? Not bad at all.

I pay $49.95 but and I saw a $10 rate increase. Granted it has not increased since 2002. However, that is due more to competition.

The fact that 99% of the cable companies give you a discount if you subscribe to a certain video tier along with any other product? They don't raise your cable rate if you just want video ... but if you just want HSI or just want their phone, you pay more without video service.

I suspect that almost everyone here (with a VERY few exceptions) know anything about Cablevision's revenue streams, and a breakdown of capital investment per product. (Hello, Wilt... I bet you're the only one

Having said that - Cablevision isn't Comcast. And Comcast isn't Mediacom. Mediacom isn't Cox, and Cox isn't Verizon.

Each company runs their operation as they see fit. There's no "one size fits all" mold.

If history has shown us anything, Cablevision tries extremely hard to be at the forefront of technology - they have a (relatively) small physical footprint, a large subscriber base, and a deep penetration rate that the other CableCo's would kill for.

It's a different model than you may be used to in your area.

actually it was $19.95 with a 1 year agreement back in the day when Cablevision had contracts.
