<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/635815"><b>ghostpainter</b></A> : Just got a call from the station In Devore and it was snowing heavy and sticking....NE winds are picking up and snow level dropping.<br><br>Also picking up reports from the 138 closed from the 15 to Palmdale, 14 closed in Axton. In fact all roads in the MT's are now closed unless you have 4 wheel drive and chains. <br><br>I would remiss if I failed to add in the possiblity of heavy thunderstorm possibles in all areas this afternoon, hail and snow possible in those storms. Also, Tornadoes are now possible along the coastal areas especially in the OC county area, and the area from Corona south into Lake Elsinore. West winds coming off of the coast will meet with the NE winds creating severe conditions.<br><br>gdh-hinghamwx.]]></description>

In the Inland Empire Valleys, you can expect another 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches. We were all in heavy trucks as we were moving my aunt and uncle to Custer SD. <br><br>Anyway, we waited for 3 days as about 4 feet of powder built up on the 80 eating at some real good restaurants, one of which had a really french toast and sausage breakfast and the rooms were good too. <br><br>In side they had a list that you could sign up to that the WHP would advise when the temps rose to 34 degrees. That white powder could be driven in once the temp went back above freezing.<br><br>sure enough, as we watched the bottom of the TV screen for the outside temperature, it went up to 34 and the WHP called and said we could roll. I was at a Petro, and their Iron Skillet restaurants turn out some pretty decent food. It could have been worse though.... the truck stop I'd spent the night in the night before in Tucumcari, NM was like something out of a horror movie. Worst Mexican food I've ever eaten, and in dumpy, dirty surroundings. It closed up years ago, I'm told. Glad I wasn't stuck there.<br><br>As it was, in Amarillo I had to slog my way through above-the-knee- snow for most of 3 days to get to the toilets and restaurant. Ended up going sideways, into the concrete barrier.  He lost his front bumper and several front end parts.  He then spun out of control on the downside of the bridge (towards Terminal Island), until the road leveled out. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/635815"><b>ghostpainter</b></A> : The first of several Low systems and the jet stream beginning to move in over Santa Barbara and move to the south east. Light rain should start over the LA Basin about 1 to 2:am and spread to the south.<br><br>Current estimates are calling for 1 to 3 inches of rain along the coast and into the LA Basin, 1/2 to 1 inch in Orange County, 3 to 6 inches along west facing slopes of the San Gabriel's and San Bernardino Ranges.<br><br>Snow levels will start off around 6,000 feet and quickly lower to 4500 feet by morning, and 3500 feet by evening. By Tuesday morning snow levels will drop even further to between 1500 and 2000 feet affecting all passes including the 10 heading to Palm Springs.<br><br>Winds of 70 mph could occur along the upper ridges and in the Grapevine making travel in the pass likely to be closed by the CHP.<br><br>The upper Deserts, the Lucern Valley, Yucca and Joshua Tree could see periods of blowing sand, snow and rain.<br><br>The Jet stream is posed to continue to move over the south land thru Tuesday night into Wednesday.<br><br>Expect periods of rain, then showers, then more heavy rain as a series of impulses move over the area. Temps will be down 25 to 35 degrees below normal in all areas especially the deserts. The process for this is called virga.<br><br>6:PM update; <br>It looks like a series of storms will be moving over the south Land over the next 5 to 7 days. If they move as they are currently moving we will have a few hours of rain and then a few hours of showers. <br><br>If the storms slow down then the rainfall will increase. Right now we are looking at 1 to 2 inches along the coast and LA Basin, 3 to 4 inches of rain against the up slope west facing foothills and MT's. <br><br>Sunday night snow level will start out at 7,000 feet lowering to 5,000 feet my Monday afternoon. By Tuesday Morning snow levels could be down to 3500 feet affecting all pass's. <br><br>Wednesday Morning could see snow levels dip even further as more cold air filters in from the north, perhaps as low as 2500 feet in the Antalope valley and Palmdale landcaster areas. During briedf periods of heavy rain in thunderstorms the snow levels could drop to valley floor levels or 1500 feet. <br><br>Again, this all depends on the speed and timing of the arrival of the storm impulses and the cold air. Daytime highs will average 25 degrees below normal all areas.<br><br>Snow amounts of 12 to 30 inches are possible at all resort levels with 6 inches possible at 3,000 feet. Mammoth could see as much 6 feet of new snow and the northern Sierras and the Cascades could see snow fall measured in feet.]]></description>

It is not quite saturated enough for all of the moisture that was in those clouds to produce even more than showers.<br><br>Showers that fall that do not reach the ground are called virga. The Jet stream will begin to bend south Friday Night over Northern California and the Arctic air will begin moving south over the Great basin Saturday Morning. <br><br>There are several storm Impulses embedded in the jet stream that should sweep down out of the Gulf Of Alaska where a huge 1025MB Low has set it self up for the next couple of weeks.<br><br>As this series of events occurs we are looking for light showers Saturday evening, scattered to wide spread showers on Sunday. If Enough Cold Air Sinks Down Over The South Land Snow Levels Will Drop To The Upper Valleys And Foothills. Only 1 Or 2 Inches Is Anticipated At This Time At The Low Levels. Estimates For The Upper Levels Are 6" To 24" In The San Gabriel'S, 12 To 30 Inches In The Big Bear Area And 40 To 60 Inches In The Southern Sierras, 35 To 70 Inches In The Northern Sierras With 5 To 7 Inches Possible At The 500 Foot Level In The Coastal Mt'S, Redding And San Francisco Ranges.<br><br>This Storm, Will Be Coming Into Northern California And Then Central California On Friday.
