It's nice here as well, but I wish Time Warner would spread the love to everyone , especially the rest of SoCal.

Not bad for wireless speeds.

Time Warner is a JOKE in Raleigh, NC. Speed sucks and they refuse to increase download or upload speed. We'll see how they react to AT&T's Uverse launch as of TODAY!!! TWC has held us hostage for years. Just look at your speeds and compare them to ours. I hope Uverse blows them away! GO UVERSE!

Well, it really isn't all that bad for the standard 7000/384 speeds they offer. Of course, it would be great to be getting those supersonic speeds they have in Cal and parts of NY, but my guess is the toll would be considerably more than I'm paying now.

Line quality testing indicates high packet loss on their backbone router:
ae-2-0.cr0.nyc30.tbone.rr.com
... and has for some time (3 months or more?)

Unless that loss happens at that router, and then every router after it, and the final destination, then there is no actual loss. The only loss that is occurring is the rate-limiting of UDP/ICMP packets DIRECTLY to that router.

Not saying that you don't have speed problems, since you say you do. But that one router is not your problem.

I'm not sure how many times it has to be said in these forums that when "loss" and high latency shows up at one hop in the middle of a traceroute, but doesn't continue til the end, that it is not the problem.

Skuv,

Thanks for the clarification. What else can I do to diagnose intermittent problems such as I'm seeing? Line quality tests always show about the same -- crystal clear from the West Coast pings and a few issues on the East Coast such as I mentioned before.

Lost Skype calls, dropped connections, etc. but nothing RR will acknowledge to be a real issue.

Don't get too comfortable with the speeds you are seeing. Roadrunner giveth and Roadrunner taketh away. Here we had 15/2 service for several months followed by a return to 10/1 caps for Roadrunner turbo and a price increase to boot. Speed increases are temporary and will not last forever. Roadrunner gets you to pay for turbo and then gives you the turbo shaft. You think things are fine now but wait until your service is chopped without notice and your rates increased.

Are all the 15mbps and up speeds from turbo subscribers? What do you pay, and in what package/bundle?

Those are pretty sweet. I called TW cable about switching to their internet from this very slow DSL, but the prices TW offers seem too high. I'll keep looking in to it.

I'm only paying 44.90 for turbo right now. This is because i am on a special promotion for a year. The price will go up to 54.90 after the promotion period. I see burst download speeds up to 33mb and sustained speeds of around 14.5mb. Upload around here is 768 for turbo. I'm in the mid-ohio division also. The one thing i could use is higher upstream speed though. It still whips dsl in my area though.

Make sure to ask them what their promotions are.

Here is my speed tonight.

I'm seeing great speeds tonight, but this is how my connection always is, at all times

Everyone in my neighborhood have been switching to Uverse, those AT&T people always have a truck in our neighborhood it seems...ATT tried to tell me Uverse was fiber to the home lol

Fine by me if everyone wants to swtich, I'll enjoy the awesome speeds, though it's only powerboost were seeing.

Yes. All you are seeing are speedtests being done by folks with Turbo. They really don't prove anything except that their speedboost is working as advertised. But the speedboost itself, while helpful, produces a more inaccurate speedtest in my opinion because it is a short lived test that only takes seconds to run anyway.
