Re: [TWC] Outstanding speed with Time Warner

you should try to download a file and see if you can download @ that speed cause for me on my

it says my connection is 17.8 mbps but when i try downloading a file off of like giganews service i cant go any higher than 9.33 mbps so im guessing RR is capping me @ 10 megs but speedtest shows higher speeds even using RR speedtest i get higher speeds than what i can actually download.

I have had no issues with speed. I used to think I was getting 13Mbps/400Kbps as a max until one day I tried a speed test with my PC directly plugged into the router - WOW - I got 25Mbps!!!

Turns out my Wirelss G network was limiting my speed tests to around 13Mbps. I just updated to a WRT310N running mixed N and G and now get the full 25Mbps (or very close)

Funny how we used to complain the ISP was slow - now the wireless is slower than the ISP!!

BTW: I have the uplink for this PC limited to 600Kbps - I get 768Kbps but reserve some for other apps (VoiP, VPN)

My speed was great at ALL times of the day until I moved across town. Now anytime except 3-7 a.m. I get speeds like this and Worse! But TWC says there is nothing wrong on their end..... But why did it work so well before I moved???

Are you seeing these speeds with the PC directly connected to the cable modem or through a router??

I tried it Hooked straight to Modem and Hard Wired to Router. Its the same on both. Before I moved, I didnt have ANY Speed Issues. I moved to a busier part of town and now the speed sucks. We called TWC, they said its because of my Modem. We have the SBV5121 with the built in Phone connectors, but we dont have phone service. If it was the modem, why would it work perfect before the move? We will see monday when they bring new modem and hook it up.

Texas has some good speeds as well. Higher upload would be nice, as an option.

If they think its the modem - then have them come out on a service call and replace the modem - they can read the speed with their test gear at the time as well as signal, etc

You have to go through support baby step at a time before you have a leg to stand on when you ask to talk to a supervisor in support and hopefully get an escalation

You should also call and ask what the suggested speeds are for the tier your in.

And wireless is only half duplex, and the further you are the less speed you get. I get about 8 Mbps down on my laptop where I get the full 15 + powerboost on my wired PC.

That is not a problem, I don't download anything big on the laptop.

I get full speed and powerboost on both my wired machine and my laptop,

I only have a small apartment though.

I could not be happier!!!!!

Note: I limit upload bandwidth on all machines on my network to 600Kbps each. This insures my VoIP always has headroom
