2 edits | Interesting. I just read thru the posts here. This is the first time I've heard of PowerBoost. I've always paid the standard $44.95 for the regular RR. So I checked my account online. This is weird. On my Account Summary Page, the Monthly Charges are now listed at $47.95. But when I click on my Statement Details, it still shows $44.95. There's no mention of $47.95 anywhere on the bill. If they notified me about a $3 increase, I never saw it.
I noticed this on their website - »cfl.mybrighthouse.com/products_a···ost.aspx :
"When extra bandwidth is available on Bright House Networks fiber network, customers will temporarily experience faster download speeds."
Also:
"You are not limited to a certain number of PowerBoosts, rather they are granted as often as the network availability allows."
So it sounds like they are saying "Hey, we have all this bandwidth, why let it go to waste? If idbit is the only guy on the network, we might as well keep it cranked up for him." Is that what they're doing? Would that explain my gaudy speed test numbers? I probably am the only RR customer in my neighborhood. Only thing, I'm not paying for Turbo. And they do say that PowerBoost is only available for Turbo customers. It looks like they added it without telling me.
I'm wondering if I can believe these speed tests, because I tried downloading some video files from a sports website (nfl.com). The download speeds were terrible - around 500 kb/s. Is that normal? Is the website that you're downloading from usually a huge bottleneck like that? Can somebody recommend a better website for file download testing?
Thanks! IB |

Try Usenet binary groups... that'll tell you your true speed. Just make sure you pick a good server.. ie GigaNews, Easynews, etc. Or you could download a big Linux distro ISO from a good FTP site. |

4 edits | reply to mandziakws Speeds very erratic in recent days, especially during peak hours here since the supposed speed boost in standard service from 6000/512 to 10/1. On minute I'm getting 2000-3000 and then the next minute 9000 (however, crappy is more the norm though seems to be improving as the evening goes on). Pretty consistent during off hours, but what's that good for? Maybe things will settle down in a week or two. Let's hope so--it was pretty consistent even during peak times before this speed "improvement/upgrade."
Here's one:

2 edits | Still erratic but this is one of my better tests during tonight's peak hours (service 10/1). I get two to three in the 3000 range to every one like this:
