1 edit | [Modem] 3347NWG-006, Netopia residential GUI, username@att.
I loaned out my 3347NWG-006 yesterday to a friend until we could get a 2Wire 2701HG-B ordered and shipped to him. He needed wireless capability for his daughter while she is home from college.
I reset the Netopia to factory defaults before I left home, connected it up at his home and configured it with his username@att.net login. When the next page came up it asked me if I wanted to use PPPoE, PPPoA, DHCP, and another option or so. I have never seen this before on the Netopia so I selected PPPoE. The GUI comes up and it is the Netopia residential GUI.
I know that there was a similar problem with the 3347-02-1006 Wireless Gateway if used with an username@att.net login and there was no way to fix it until the 7.6.1r9 firmware update and firmware conversion utility.
I know that the 7.6.1r9 firmware for the 3347-02-1006 will not work on a 3347NWG-006.
Is my 3347NWG-006 now going to be stuck forever with the Netopia residential GUI?
I could wait a few days and find out for myself, but I thought I would ask now so I could get a head start on being depressed.
Couple more questions.
Will a 3347-02-1006 Wireless Gateway use the business GUI when configured with an username@bellsouth.net login?
Will there be a firmware update to allow a 3347NWG-006 to use the business GUI with an username@att.net login? -- Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care. |

Hard resetting the netopia (possibly doing it a couple times) and using the bellsouth.net login might get it back to the business GUI but I don't know for sure. |

| reply to Carl So you put an @att.net username into the 3347NWG-006 got the Netopia residential GUI then hard reset it, put an @bellsouth.net username into it and it still has the Netopia residential GUI? -- Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care. |

| reply to kremithefrog The 3347NWG-006 is using the latest 7.6.1r6 firmware from the Netopia website. You can't flash the same version on top of it's self either.
When I get it back from my friend I will hard reset it, configure it with my @bellsouth.net username and see what happens.
I could live with the Netopia residential GUI if I have to. It's the same as the GUI on the 2241N-006 except for some more settings because it's a 3347NWG-006 with a wireless access point.
It sucks though because I kind of rely on it as a back up in case I lose a 3347NWG-006 at one of my businesses and I have loaned it out to customers of mine in the past that have FastAccess Business DSL and needed it until they could get one shipped to them or a tech could drop one off.
I don't know how soon I will get it back because I have not had any luck with ordering a 2Wire 2701HG-B from the Help Desk for my friend. Trying to order it yesterday was like being caught in a bad episode of the Twilight Zone. In all the other AT&T regions you can order a modem on line. In the AT&T Southeast region you can order any piece of equipment you want on line except for a modem. You would think that AT&T would do anything it could to minimize customer interaction with the Help Desk. We are already charged more money for the same modem with different firmware so you would would think they could afford to pay someone there to add modems to the equipment ordering page. »https://contact.bellsouth.com/dsl/consumercpe/
You can order modems from the AT&T store except for the AT&T Southeast region. »store.att.com/
Is their any way to order a modem for the AT&T Southeast region on line from AT&T? Maybe a webpage for AT&T Southeast that I have overlooked.
Can I buy a modem from AT&T off of a tech? I know they keep modems on the truck because I have seen them go to their truck and get one to replace a defective modem. -- Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care. |

| I don't know of any way to order a modem online unless it's a new DSL order or upgrading to home networking if you don't already have it.
You can't buy a modem off a tech. You might could get a tech to give you one but that's doubtful unless he's on a service call for you. |

| reply to Airwolf7 The AT&T store has text that implies bellsouth region can't order...does the wesite actually reject bellsouth region orders? Check bestbuy.com the 2wire is like $99 about the same as bellsouth's price, as for firmware differences I think they are small and few |

 Netopia 3347-02-1006 |
I bought a Netopia 3347-02-1006 on ebay. When I got it I reset it with the button on the back to clear out any left over information from the previous owner. When I went to the user interface I noticed it was completely different from all the screen shots I had seen on this forum. I assumed (yeah, I know about ass-u-me )it must be a different firmware. I think it is the latest firmware on the Netopia website for this modem. It is configured with my Bellsouth login. That seems to be the same as Airwolf7 has seen when using the at&t login. I didn't know there was a residential GUI as opposed to something else. I just knew it was different than screen shots I had seen. Here is a screen shot of my modems interface. Is it the same as what you see Airwolf7? |

1 edit | The firmware that was in the modem originally was written specially for bellsouth. It has a feature coded into to it that if a non bellsouth.net user id is put into it changes over to the rban firmware. Sometimes you can hold the reset button down for about 30 sec's and it will revert the modem back to the old firmware. There is a conversion utility for the 3347nwg-006 not just the 3347w. I checked and the conversion software is still availible it can be converted back to normal with software I have used it before. What is the file of the program you are using to convert the 3347-02? A tech can convert it back. |

1 edit | reply to Airwolf7 the case has a different model number on it but the firmware is the same 7.6.1 r6. A later release of 7.6.1 r9 has been released for this modem but it shipped with 7.6.1 r6. When i get a chance later today i will flip it to rban and then convert it to make sure it goes through. I have a nwg on hand I'll try to flip it to and run a conversion on it. |

| reply to Airwolf7 I setup a 3347nwg (marked with 3347nwg-006 on the bottom) with the 7.6.1 r6 firmware and did a hard reset on it. I then plugged in a @att.net during setup and had it go to the Netopia rban page. I ran the conversion on it and it changed it to the biz class firmware and left the @att.net id in place. |

| Sorry I have not replied back to anyone yet. I had a few replies setting in tabs on my browser but I have been called out on several jobs and had not posted them yet.
My computer thought it would be a great idea to install some updates and reboot. I did not care much for that idea.
I have the Firmware Conversion Wizard Utility (att_SkuConv_705.exe), the 7.6.1r6 firmware (nta761r6.bin) for the Netopia 3347NWG-006 and the 7.6.1r9 firmware (nwta761r9.bin) for the Motorola Netopia 3347-02-1006.
Just waiting to get my 3347NWG-006 back from the friend I loaned it to.
Still have not been able to order a 2Wire 2701HG-B for him from the Help Desk. I have called seven times from multiple phones. They can not physically hear me. Some kind of bad connection. I can hear them but they can not hear me well enough to understand what it is that I need.
I set this guy up with the $10.00 FastAccess DSL Lite deal that did not come with a Free after rebate modem or wireless gateway. I told him I had plenty of modems and would give him one for free. We later realised that he needed wireless capabilities. He wanted an all-in-one unit supported by the Help Desk.
If I don't have any luck by Monday with ordering him a 2Wire 2701HG-B I'm probably just going to give him the Netopia.
I guess I could just upgrade my account on line to the Free Home Networking, buy the 2Wire at the same time from AT&T and sell it to him. -- Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care. |

Is the Firmware Conversion Wizard Utility (att_SkuConv_705.exe) that I have the same one that you have?
When you put the 3347NWG-006 into RBAN mode then used the conversion utility and firmware to convert it back to BellSouth mode which firmware version did you use?
Back when the 7.6.1r9 firmware came out for the 3347-02-1006 I thought I would see if it brought anything new to the table by flashing it to my 3347NWG-006. My NWG was not going to have anything to do with that firmware. Tried flashing from GUI, CLI, and conversion utility. NWG said no way each time. It said wrong firmware for this hardware.
Mine was not stuck in RBAN mode at the time though. Maybe that is the trick to it.
.
Edit: Does the 3347-02-1006L work with either a @bellsouth.net or @att.net login without going into RBAN mode? -- Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care. |
