Re: [LA] Slow in Baton Rouge 70810

if any Cox guys can read my plea, heres my deal. 7pm to 12 pm is all i need my internet for. online gaming(xbox live, left4 dead, cod4) and netflix streaming of nbc shows. Can you please guarantee the bare minimum bandwidth that i can play these games without losing connection, and watch the nbc shows in HD. Every time I start a show at these times, i get 4 bars and show starts in hd but 2 minutes later it stops, and quality is reduced because of connection issues. So far I havent been able to watch a single show in HD this month.

I keep getting frequent internet disconnects and server timeouts and my t.v. is blocking on HD channels and the audio drops out. The cable tv problems happen whenever the internet is acting up. I didn't have a prob. when I lived in 70816, but since I've moved to 70810 two weeks ago I've been having nonstop problems.

Good luck with that. In the first few years I had HSI, first with @Home, then TCI, then Cox (just ownership changing hands), techs came out several times when I was having problems like this. They never were able to solve the problem, which would mysteriously become fixed weeks to months later. Then over time, it would degrade again. Since Cox took over, this cycle has become less frequent, but it does appear to be happening again now.

yeah, I hear you, anyway I went ahead and cancelled the tech appointment because I am sure its not my connection because upload is at full speed at all time.

I've been having similar problems, but I think it's not a "defect" as far as Netflix goes. What I think happens is that Netflix rates your connection on the Speedboost, thinks your connection can handle HD, then when it un-Speedboosts, the buffer runs out. I've found that if after you start it, pause it for a minute or two, then it's usually enough.

Completely unscientific and anecdotal, I know, but it works.

I'm on the regular plan...think it is called Preferred and I haven't had any issues streaming Netflix during the day for over a month now. 4 quality bars in HD with no issues. I've even been able to fire up the Roku on the back SD TV and stream Netflix to it at the same time.

Here we go again. For the last few nights, the Internet has been glacial, and this has been typical:

4/15/09 10:16 PM
Ping statistics for 68.11.159.129:
Packets: Sent = 132, Received = 132, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 821ms, Average = 410ms

Still mostly unusable, and it's getting late...

4/15/09 11:10 PM
Ping statistics for 68.11.159.129:
Packets: Sent = 182, Received = 181, Lost = 1 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 54ms, Maximum = 748ms, Average = 450ms

And back to normal an hour later:

4/16/09 12:16 AM
Ping statistics for 68.11.159.129:
Packets: Sent = 34, Received = 34, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 5ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 10ms

Your node does get busiest in the evening hours. I've asked your local engineering to look into this issue.

Thanks. When it gets like this, it's impossible even to watch a low-res Youtube movie, and when it lasts several hours a night during "prime-time", it's a real problem.

move to Lafayette?

please get back to this forum with improvements by Cox. your complaint is typical of my area just south of LSU. it's been this way since Gustav last September. with Cox Baton Rouge taking control of New Orleans and Lafayette markets, I realistically don't see situation improving. line conditioning for UVERSE continues here. ATT expects to begin marketing early summer.

Re: [LA] Slow in Baton Rouge 70810

dhar,

Your ping statistics are for 68.11.159.129 . What is that? Is that the default gateway of your modem? If that's the case you're getting packet loss between the Ethernet port of your computer and your modem... no further. Your problem lies there.

It is indeed the IP address of the default gateway according to my router. Do you really believe it's just a coincidence that other people in this thread observe slowness at the same times that this simple test agrees with the slowness I observe, or that Cox techs have acknowledged node congestion at those times? As you have stated it's a local effect, isolated to my computer, all I can say is, I had no idea my computer had such spooky influence on the rest of the world.

It should be noted that with the merger of the two Louisiana markets that no consolidation of equipment will occur. Only administrative changes will be occurring.
