Re: [FireFox] firefox 3.0.4 using 100% of cpu on exit

Isn't browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone only for a scan after download? I see that happening (Avast icon spins) but on exit only FF uses 100% cpu, no Avast action detected. In my case it's about 3-4 seconds, regardless of number of downloads, number of open tabs, or anything else I can determine.

It just seems FF is doing it's own work.

Thanks for the reply - I think I'll give that a shot, maybe disable download status bar scan call and see what happens.

Added in version 3.x. I think it will use whatever default AV is to scan

Are you disabling the auto AV scan in Fx only or disabling the AV on the computer?

You may know this or not but just go into about:config and filter to this entry.

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

Double-click the value and change it to false.
When the heck did they add that? Scanning after download is the main reason I use Download Statusbar. Do you know if there's an entry for specifying the location of your scanner? Or is it 'smart'?

did not know i could do that thanks. trying to find a way to disable autoscanning in mcaffee for just the one directory ff uses, not having any luck there.

its not really a problem persay, but if i keep killing off the ff process when it hangs like this im afraid im gonna cause data corruption sooner or later...

yes and yes..

i wonder, it was suggested some where that this can be caused by an antivirus app scanning the database ff writes to when it closes. i cant seem to find a way to exclude a directory so later on ill disable the av and see if it still happens.

You said you reinstalled Fx but did you do a Clean Install after completing an Uninstall based on the instructions here?

when i exit out of firefox it dose not close, it uses anywhere from 50% to 100% of the cpu, ive read in some places this has to do with the profile but ive even replaced it with a new blank one, i get the same behavior this lasts any where from 30 secconds to infinity and bogs down the system to a point i end up killing the process. any idea's whats causing it?
