 | How best to use Norton Insight in NIS 2009 I'm not a techie, but would like to understand better the value of Norton Insight. The way I understand it, Insight checks through all files, decides which ones it thinks are always "OK" and from then on only scan the ones that didn't make the safety cut. This cuts down on the overall time of scans, making regular scanning more acceptable to non techs like me. If I missed something in my admittedly simple explanation, let me know.
My question is, should I be looking closer at the files/programs that do not meet the Insight cut as "Trusted"? When viewing a file not trusted, it appears that many of the sub files are indeed trusted, but not all. Should I be doing something to check out these files? Or is that not what NIS is supposed to be doing?
I'm probably over thinking this and again, I'm not a techie, but if somebody could better explain how this seemingly neat idea works and what weaknesses it has, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Woody79_00I run Linux am I still a PC?Premium join:2004-07-08 united state | Norton Insight Compares the files on your computer to a known trusted list maintained by Symantec. The files listed as untrusted on your machine are sent to symantec and in time they will check them,
I recommend refreshing your Norton Insight once a week.
When i used NIS i found the 1st 2 weeks i used it 72% of the files on my machine were trusted...I ran Norton INsight 2 weeks later and 81% of the files were trusted.
Just run it frequently to update the Norton Insight. Just because a file isn't trusted does not mean it is bad.
For exmaple, last time i used it, it label a file from ATI's Driver suite as Untrusted, this may be corrected now, but the best thing to do is Google the files in question to get an opinion about them. |

My own experience with Insight is that it does not dramatically shorten scan times. But that could just be me.
