Re: visiting Baton Rouge

Did you end up doing anything fun that you would suggest checking out. I ended going fishing for the last few weekends and catching lots of snapper and drum. My freezer is starting to get nicely stocked again. I had a friend that went to the coast and caught some wahoo and tuna and he gave me some of that also. I only really like the wahoo when it is fresh. I have been here for almost 5 years now. I need some suggestions on what else there is to do. If you discovered anything please share.

The first parade in Baton Rouge doesn't look like it is until the first week in Feb. »www.bestofbatonrouge.com/events/mardi_gras/
There are a few parades in or near New Orleans during that time period.

//edit actually it looks like the parades during that period are in Slidell which is a little further than New Orleans.

That is also the beginning of Mardi Gras Festivities. I haven't really looked at any of the schedules this year and I am not sure what date Mardi Gras falls on this year. It was pretty early last year and there was a ball and parade I went towards the end of January last year.

Don't want the visitors to over indulge in good times in the red stick.

Also the USS Kidd may be something you are interested in. There is a Casino right next door if that is your thing. I haven't ever been to the Casinos in Baton Rouge. I have heard that one of them is a lot nicer that the other, but I am not sure about that. LSU's basketball team is doing pretty well this year if you like college basketball you can check out one of the games. The weather is sort of iffy during that period so not sure if there are any swamp tours or things like that going on.
I have been meaning to go check out the cajun village »www.thecajunvillage.com/ . That could be fun if you are into that sort of thing.

What do you all enjoy doing ? I can try to think of a few things.

Some restaurant suggestions.
»travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-1···_grill-i Sammy's

»www.thechimes.com/ The chimes
»www.jubans.com/ Jubans - It is a little nicer than some of the others.

You could go see some of the plantations around. I have been to a couple. I like Oak Alley. »www.oakalleyplantation.com/

New Orleans is only about an hour away depending on traffic.

Hello all-

The wife and I are going to be staying (somewhere not yet picked) in Baton Rouge the last two weeks of next month.

Any suggestions on where to go/what to do while we're there?

Thanks!
