| sip broker pstn number to voip.ms sub-account number. how?
I dialled a sipbroker pstn number and then entered *8570 xxxxxx1, where 8570 is the voip.ms gateway code, and xxxxxx1 is my voip.ms account number + the number of my sub-account.
I thought that would connect me, but I get a busy signal.
It works fine if I use, for example, ipkall and forward to xxxxxx1@sip.us4.voip.ms, so I know the sub-account is reachable.
Any suggestions?
thanks |

1 edit | As you say, the account works through ipKall, so you know the configuration is OK.
The problem is that Sipbroker does not work with Voip.MS.
If you notice on the Sipbroker list, there is a "red X" next to their listing, indicating a problem: »www.sipbroker.com/sipbroker/acti···itePages
It's one bummer about Voip.MS, and you should let them know your dissatisfaction. They have been making a lot of enhancements lately, maybe they can work on this...
However, in fairness to them, Sipbroker does not work with several other carriers, such as Packet8, Vonage, PhonePower (no code), and perhaps VOIPo, so Voip.MS is not alone here.

As you probably know, instead of using a PSTN access number to get into Sipbroker, you can set up a free account with Gizmo5 (then dial * to get to Sipbroker).
Or you could set up a free "IP Freedom" account with CallCentric (then dial **275 to get into Sipbroker).
In each case, you must see that your dial plan can accommodate this. |

| reply to fahrgill FYI The provider list active or trouble indicator only gets updated when someone reports it as I have had our system "as a provider" even though I am not, offline for quite some time. So there there is no auto system check in place. -- KieranMullen »360oregon.com Betamax/Voipbuster Reseller »infocalls.net/vouchers IP/Website Tools »ip.drlinky.com |

| reply to fahrgill What is the dial in number? Different numbers are sponsored by different companies, as such can but up or down at any given moment depending on which way the wind blows.

It works fine if I use, for example, ipkall and forward to xxxxxx1@sip.us4.voip.ms, so I know the sub-account is reachable. If you look at provider code *8570, the person that set it up used @proxy.voip.ms (not the @sip.us4.voip.ms which you confirm works). And if that older proxy address is now incorrect (not active and/or working for inbound calls) that would explain why SIP Broker isn't working for you.
To fix this, you could either put in a request on the SIP Broker forums to update the proxy (to the current/correct proxy for their service), or just log into SIP Broker, and submit a new/correct entry (which would generate a new SIP Broker code) for VoIP MS.
NOTE: The edit of the existing *8570 code to the new/correct proxy is probably the better of the two solutions (as it avoids cluttering up the SIP Broker list with additional codes), but while normal users can add new entries to the SIP Broker list, it actually takes one of the few SIP Broker admins to (manually) edit/fix an existing SIP Broker code. Which is why I suggested posting the request in the SIP Broker support forum (free registration required for posting):

Just additional data: One problem would be that sip.us4.voip.ms is just one of the servers that Voip.MS uses. They have several servers, and different users are registered to different ones. Would they need a different Sipbroker code for each server? |

Depends on how Voip.ms runs the servers.... if the members registered on sip.us4.voip.ms can be called even at 123456@sip.us1.voip.ms than one SIP code is fine...
Otherwise, each server would need its own SIP Code...
One solution, create an alias by signing up for a SIPBroker acct. for youracct@sip.us4.voip.ms... it'll let you create a *011-1xxxxxx number that you can call from SIPBroker Access Numbers |

This would enable you to get calls from SIPBroker Access numbers using 1XXXXXXXXXX |

| reply to fahrgill The sipbroker code that currently exists for voip.ms is for proxy.voip.ms, which resolves to the same IP as sip.us1.voip.ms. So if you register against sip.us1.voip.ms, instead of us4, then *8570 works with subaccounts (just tried it).
I guess additional sipbroker entries for the other servers will need to be created to make those work as well, like they have for {us,eu,au}.voxalot.com, for example. |

And on the Sipbroker site, that code just changed from red to green, indicating your success! |

| reply to fahrgill Could someone test this:
If user xxxxxx is registered against sip.us1.voip.ms, can he also receive a call to xxxxxx@sip.us2.voip.ms ?
(trying to have Martin at SipBroker adjust things... but need to know if every single server needs to be added) |

@tor-proxy.org | reply to emoci I don't follow: if he is registered to us1, how can he test how us2 works except by becoming registered to us2.
I can tell you that I am registered to us4, and cannot connect via sipbroker. |
