| [IE] IE7 crashes a lot
What does it crash a lot of times for me? I have the lastest version of IE7 and latest Windows updates and run WinXP PRO SP3. I recently reformatted my pc because of a bad hijack and I still have IE7 crashing on me. It happens particulary during image viewing and if they sites have a lot of content. Anybody else here with this problem? |

1 edit | I've been using IE7 since it's release, both on XP Pro and Vista machines, none of which have ever exhibited any stability issues. In fact, our work notebooks come with XP Pro/IE6 installed, and I much prefer IE7...and if it was not stable, I would never have it on my work notebook!
It may be specific to your computer's hardware configuration, but more likely either a slightly corrupted IE7 install, or, particularly as you mention issues when viewing graphics and lots of content, an issue with Java or some other add on, as Cudini mentioned.
If you continue to have browser issues though, you might want to try an alternative browser, particularly FireFox. One advantage is that it comes in a much leaner format, where you decide which add-ons to employ, or not! -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

2 edits | reply to LaZZZy_bOi Mine is doing the same thing on a Vista machine. Just started about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm certain it has to do with one of the MS auto updates, but don't know which one yet...
My XP machine gets MS auto updates too, but I'm not having any IE7 hang-up problems on it.
EDITED TO ADD; I also strongly suspect the Adobe Flash Player/Viewer, in at least a few cases, on the Vista machine with IE7. |

Google Chrome is also a good browser for simple browsing habits, but yes, I would recommend another browser over IE any day... even opera or something... |

| reply to LaZZZy_bOi I have IE6 on XP. But on Vista IE 7 crashes constantly. This is what Microsoft has to say about it:
"Problem caused by Windows
This problem was caused by Windows, which was created by Microsoft Corporation.
There is no solution for this problem at this time."

| reply to LaZZZy_bOi One thing you could try is to temporarily disable third party browser extensions for a period of time and see if it helps:
IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > remove the checkmark in front of "Enable third party browser extensions" > OK then restart IE.
If that helps, you would have to track down which third party browser extension is causing the problem. |

| reply to LaZZZy_bOi I have rolled back to FP9. No hangs or crashes with IE now. It is FP10 causing issues. Do a google search for the last FP9 and Fp un-install Utility. Good Luck -- If I knew then, what I know now. I would have still made the same mistakes. |

| reply to LaZZZy_bOi Does the Event Viewer give you an event ID or what the faulting module is (if that's even available, in the error text you pasted, it is stating 'unknown'). Could be a flash or java issue. I would go to adobe.com and java.com and confirm you have the latest software installed. -- My time is a piece of wax, falling on a termite, that's choking on a splinter. --Beck |

I am not sure but I have a strong feeling its IE7Pro that is causing the crashing. I think I will stop using this add on. |

| did you try disabling your add-on's yet?
Other basic things I would try if you haven't already:
Delete your temporary internet files
Maybe even run a spyware scan (spybot S&D, Adaware, etc...)
Run checkdisk
Run system file checker; (type "sfc /scannow" in "Run") you may need your XP disk for this if it does find corrupt files. -- My time is a piece of wax, falling on a termite, that's choking on a splinter. --Beck |

| reply to LaZZZy_bOi Even if I disable to add-ons and that will work I still won't know what add-on is causing this and since this crashes happen randomly but mostly on viewing images and sites with a lot of content.
Also no need to run all that stuff this is happening after freshly reformatting my HD! and it was the same like this even before reformatting! |

| Well, there's not much more information to draw off of from what you've provided. A fault address at 0x00000001 is fairly common and general, especially if it doesn't specify a module in the error report. Don't know if it might help if you roll back to IE6 and reinstall 7.
Personally, I'd just ditch IE for another browser unless you absolutely need to use IE. -- My time is a piece of wax, falling on a termite, that's choking on a splinter. --Beck |
