IF you can get through all the dead wood, they have some really smart, helpful, and knowledgeable people working for them. But their system is set up in a manner to make it as difficult as possible to get a hold of those people. An easy example of this is that they no longer give out the number of the local offices. 99.9% of the time the front line reps do not know about an outage until after it has been fixed. Fortunately I live in St. Louis (Charter's Corporate home) and rather than seeing me down at the corp offices(again) they have given me a list of people to call. Prior to getting this list, getting a problem fixed (seems to happen about once a year) took about three months, now I can USUALLY get things straightened out in a few of days.
Now all that being said, when it works it works well. They do not cap, throttle, or generally cause me any (day in day out) issues. While I think all ISPs in the US massively overcharge for what they provide, Charter is no worse than the rest. Personally, I hope they do not have to sell out. Mostly becuase I do not want to see a cap come in and our only other choice is ATT (which has all but said that a cap will be in place by mid year). |
