Re: Creating a test PPPoE server

You will need either a piece of software to run on a PC that can act as a PPPoE server (I am unaware of any off the top of my head), or use something like a Cisco router to create a basic PPPoE server and LNS.

You can pick up Cisco routers fairly cheap on ebay, and if it is just for a lab for testing, you dont need anything overly special. Something like a 2600XM series will do the job just fine.

If you need to do prformance testing aswell, and will need to be able to support high data rates, you'll need to look at models above the 2600, perhaps to the 2800 or 3800 series.

Otherwise, try googling for "pppoe server software" and have a look at what is out there for the OS you want to use to run it.

Hi

I am trying to make a simple PPPoE connection test environment. I have an Alcaltel SpeedTouch USB, connected to an DSLAM and have the modem trained.

I am trying to us the RASPPPoE protocol to allow me to create an PPPoE connection. when I run RASPPPoE program, i can't query any PPPoE servies, as "No Services are being offered".

How do I setup this so that I can emulate an PPPoE server, I have created an incoming connections which is used to accept the username and password which I have created.

But it just doesn't seem to want to work.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated with this

Best Regards
Jack
