2 hours and 21 minutes - northside to southside. That drive home sucked.

Mental note...never drive down a road named "Far Hills" when it is icing.

Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

I left work at 4:10 and did not think it was doing anything - then I had to scrape my windows. Got our free meal from the place that is doing preK and private kindergarten for my 2 kids. Main roads were ok and even their parking lot. Hit our street and it was bad and had a bit of a hill. Wife tried to get up another street in the van and had to stop before the hill thanks to another sliding car on a side street. She backed to a driveway as she could not make it up the hill.

She had to go around to another street that had a much gentler hill. Then she got stuck in the driveway and then she set the emergency brake because she was worried about the car 'rolling backward' - uh-huh. I drove the car into the garage - she is miss lead foot...

We live on a corner and a girl nearly took out the stop sign - sign was wedged behind the front, passenger side wheel right where the door meets the front quarter panel. Somehow a tow truck was available and got her out a bit later and after the cops showed up.

It was fun coming home from work, my normal 15 minute drive took 40 minutes.

Roads were just wet until Cleveland, then ICE.

The worst thing about the ice here is that it's too cold for salt to work on it.....

Then, we got 5" of snow.....

Thursday, we have another storm coming that will either give us another nearly inch of ice, up to 12" of snow or something in between!

Crap weather... I wish the pig spleen would have been wrong.

My street is more of a hill than people realize... The first casualty was my neighbor's full-size work van. Well, not a casualty, just a "bruised" bumper, though the other car had more damage. Another car hit a 'school ahead' sign and while they were sitting against it, another car rear-ended them. Another car did a couple 360s and hit a power pole. They parked their car and walked home. Finally, this morning, one of the school teachers locked up her brakes and slid in the same power pole. She hit it awfully hard, or so it seemed (and sounded) but she just backed her car up, parked, and went into school.

My wife said cars were sliding down the street all night.

"Death Storm 2008" is headed our way... hope I don't wish I had a generator.

Hope we all escape the potential wrath of this one.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect from noon Today through noon tomorrow for areas from the Quad Cities and north. AN ICE STORM WARNING is in effect from noon Today through noon tomorrow for areas south of the Quad Cities. A potent winter storm system moves in This evening with a mix of freezing rain and sleet to the south and snow to the north. Our latest forecast data is slowing the system down a little and keeping the ice farther south which will mean higher snow totals for the Quad Cities. We expect sleet and snow to break out this evening briefly before changing over to freezing rain for areas to the south and snow to the north through the overnight. We expect as much as a quarter to half inch of ice accumulation for areas south of the Quad Cities. From the QCA north where things will be colder, we will see more snow than ice. Snow totals will range from 3"-6" from I-80 to Hwy 30 and anywhere from 6" to 12" north of Hwy 30.

I thought we got a lot of snow last year, but we currently have more right now than we did last year at this time.

I'm sure getting tired of moving snow every other day.

It's tough on the lakes too. I see a few shanties out on our lake but not many. The snow just makes it take longer to ice over nice.

On top of all the snow, SE WI will be under a wind chill advisory Sun. and Sun. night. The natural gas company will love their increased profits.

You know that when the weather is mild and usage is down, they still increase their prices because they don't make enough money.

We can't ever win that battle.

One good thing about it being so cold, not much or no snow.

Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

Yep - more of the same bitterly cold then warm temps a couple days later. This would be like the 3 or 4th time this year that we have temps in the high teens low 20's only to go up to 50 F a day or 2 later. Now it is going from single digits to 40's...

all of you east of the Mississippi River, here we go again:

Well, here is our forecast for the next couple of days:

Snow tonight into tomorrow morning - Snow will start late this evening towards midnight and continue into the morning hours as warmer air lifts in. We'll look for an inch or two of accumulation by morning as we catch a short lull in the snow. Then it picks up again by late morning and continues through the day tomorrow. By the end of the day Tuesday, we expect about 1"-3" of snow on the ground. A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the entire area for this snow.

More snow Tuesday into Wednesday - The main push of energy moves our way Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. So snow will continue Tuesday night and wrap up by early afternoon on Wednesday. Winds will also increase Wednesday as the storm pushes east, so blowing and drifting will be a concern after the snow stops. Storm totals by Wednesday will likely be in the 4" to 7" range from the Quad Cities east and in the 2"-4" for the rest of the area. A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for the entire area for this snow.

Clear Christmas Day - Thursday looks to be cold, but calm. This is the best day to travel.

Icy mix Thursday night through Saturday - We could see a mix of light snow and/or freezing drizzle. That changes to freezing rain and rain on Friday with significant rain possible Friday night into Saturday. This raises concerns for flooding because of a combination of rain runoff and snow melt. Ice jamming could also be a problem on rivers. Dense fog may be an issue with the precipitation and melting snow. Cold air moves back in late Saturday morning changing things from rain to freezing rain and then back to snow. The uncertainty of the precipitation type makes it tough to put a finger on any snow amounts right now. But the point being it will likely be rough out there for Friday into Saturday.

Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

Heavy, wet snow made traction a bit difficult this morning. On the positive side, at least the wind can't blow it around too much. My highly efficient furnace (only 4 years old) died on me yesterday...now that it's fixed we stand a chance to have rain and thunderstorms on Sat.?

Please tell me that forecast is not correct...

We had ice yesterday late afternoon and last night only for it to now be 50 or a bit above. Last night I slid down the driveway with the trash containers and had to walk up the grass to get traction.

It is very nice it is not cold as we would be buried in snow...

Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

We got ice last night, in fact... I lost power overnight for quite some time. House was down to 58 before it came back on at 7am.

Temps came up and the ice melted pretty quickly. Supposed to get a lot of rain tomorrow here. Probably a good thing it's not going to be colder or we'd have another foot of snow.

Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

You sure got hit with the ice. I'm sorry to hear you lost power but I'm glad it was restored when it was. We had some ice here but not near as bad as you had it.

I've seen a forecast for up to 3" of rain for tomorrow, including possible thunderstorms during the night, tonight. After the flooding this year...well, let's just say I'm not looking forward to this weekend's weather.
