Re: Weeeeee - who else can ice skate...

You sure got hit with the ice. I'm sorry to hear you lost power but I'm glad it was restored when it was. We had some ice here but not near as bad as you had it.

I've seen a forecast for up to 3" of rain for tomorrow, including possible thunderstorms during the night, tonight. After the flooding this year...well, let's just say I'm not looking forward to this weekend's weather.

We got ice last night, in fact... I lost power overnight for quite some time. House was down to 58 before it came back on at 7am.

Temps came up and the ice melted pretty quickly. Supposed to get a lot of rain tomorrow here. Probably a good thing it's not going to be colder or we'd have another foot of snow.

Agreed - it is supposed to be mid 30's tomorrow and then back in the 50's for the weekend.

I must admit, I will take snow instead of ice any day.

We had ice yesterday late afternoon and last night only for it to now be 50 or a bit above. Last night I slid down the driveway with the trash containers and had to walk up the grass to get traction.

It is very nice it is not cold as we would be buried in snow...

Heavy, wet snow made traction a bit difficult this morning. On the positive side, at least the wind can't blow it around too much. My highly efficient furnace (only 4 years old) died on me yesterday...now that it's fixed we stand a chance to have rain and thunderstorms on Sat.?

Please tell me that forecast is not correct...

all of you east of the Mississippi River, here we go again:

Well, here is our forecast for the next couple of days:

Snow tonight into tomorrow morning - Snow will start late this evening towards midnight and continue into the morning hours as warmer air lifts in. We'll look for an inch or two of accumulation by morning as we catch a short lull in the snow. Then it picks up again by late morning and continues through the day tomorrow. By the end of the day Tuesday, we expect about 1"-3" of snow on the ground. A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the entire area for this snow.

More snow Tuesday into Wednesday - The main push of energy moves our way Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. So snow will continue Tuesday night and wrap up by early afternoon on Wednesday. Winds will also increase Wednesday as the storm pushes east, so blowing and drifting will be a concern after the snow stops. Storm totals by Wednesday will likely be in the 4" to 7" range from the Quad Cities east and in the 2"-4" for the rest of the area. A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for the entire area for this snow.

Clear Christmas Day - Thursday looks to be cold, but calm. This is the best day to travel.

Icy mix Thursday night through Saturday - We could see a mix of light snow and/or freezing drizzle. That changes to freezing rain and rain on Friday with significant rain possible Friday night into Saturday. This raises concerns for flooding because of a combination of rain runoff and snow melt. Ice jamming could also be a problem on rivers. Dense fog may be an issue with the precipitation and melting snow. Cold air moves back in late Saturday morning changing things from rain to freezing rain and then back to snow. The uncertainty of the precipitation type makes it tough to put a finger on any snow amounts right now. But the point being it will likely be rough out there for Friday into Saturday.

It is supposed to snow again Tuesday and was -10F with a wind chill of -35 this morning on the way home from work. I prefer the snow over the dreaded cold any day.

Yep - more of the same bitterly cold then warm temps a couple days later. This would be like the 3 or 4th time this year that we have temps in the high teens low 20's only to go up to 50 F a day or 2 later. Now it is going from single digits to 40's...

No more snow here but it is COLD, 3F now and -10 with the WC.

One good thing about it being so cold, not much or no snow.

On top of all the snow, SE WI will be under a wind chill advisory Sun. and Sun. night. The natural gas company will love their increased profits.
You know that when the weather is mild and usage is down, they still increase their prices because they don't make enough money.

We can't ever win that battle.

It's tough on the lakes too. I see a few shanties out on our lake but not many. The snow just makes it take longer to ice over nice.

Holy crap do we have a lot of snow here!
I thought we got a lot of snow last year, but we currently have more right now than we did last year at this time.

I'm sure getting tired of moving snow every other day.
