[Equipment] V-Portal Rebooting Itself

I have just received a V-Portal from Vonage to replace my Dlink VTA. I got put it on the network as I did with the VTA and it seemed to work, however in the past couple of weeks it has been dropping off in the middle of the call and going into a reboot cycle. If I leave it for a couple of minutes it eventually reconnects.

Has anyone else seen this or knows what is going on? I called the "Help" desk and they were sure it was my power adapter (I seriously doubt that...)

My adapter does exactly the same thing. I've got a Linksys adapter and recently (last 2-3 months) it's been doing exactly what you're describing. I've had Vonage over 5 years now with no issues until now.

Right in the middle of a call the adapter drops the call, resets, and logs back on to Vonage within a minute or 2.

Seems to me that it's a problem with Vonage as I also have a Sipura voip adapter that I'm using with another voip service and it never disconnects in the middle of a call - even with calls running well over 2 hrs.

Gotta be a Vonage issue... or we both have messed up adapters...

I too am having the problem of the v-portal rebooting itself in the middle of a phone conversation. I have moved the device upsteam as well as downsteam of the d-link router, with no different results. My internet provider is verizon with fios.

I can hold a connection from 2 to 18 minutes with one maximum being 33 minutes.

I have dealt with vonage customer support who can see no reason for the problem. They are sending a new v-portal device to see if the problem goes away. I don't hold much hope.

Update

As expected the new power supplies did not address the issue. I have not called tech support back to inform them of this (I don't have 4 hours to spare). I switched one of my V-Portals back to the D-Link VTA and it has worked flawlessly for the past month. My wife uses this as her primary work number and uses it through the day without any issues.

My home line is still the V-Portal and it reboots randomly when i'm on a call. The question I keep asking myself is why does the VTA work and the V-Portal doesn't, don't they essentially do the same thing?

My current config is:
1. Verizon FIOS -> IPCOP (Green Network) -> NetGear GS108T Switch -> Vonage V-Portal

2. Verizon FIOS -> IPCOP (Green Network) -> NetGear GS108T Switch (uplink) -> NetGear GS108T Switch -> Vonage V-Portal D-Link VTA

What version firmware is it running? Mine is running 2.8.1_2.2.8 and I've never noticed it rebooting...

It looks like the Firmware upgrade stopped the rebooting issues and doesn't actually drop the call, but now all my calls breakup intermittently throughout the call to the point where it is almost useless. I'm trying to figure out which is worse, calls intermittently breaking up or calls that get dropped...

Just for comparison... the D-Link VTA is solid as a rock with no problems. We are currently using this line to make phone calls. The V-Portal is just simply unusable.

RESULT! W00T! Just got off a 1.75 hr call with Vonage Tech support. They downgraded my firmware to 2.8.1_2.2.8 and had me assign a static IP address for the router. Which seems to have corrected the voice dropping issues, only time will tell about the rebooting issue. But I am pretty optimistic as I have made a couple of calls without the reboot issue. If I have problems I will let everyone know here.

Hopefully I can have the downgrade my firmware on the other V-Portal as well. I would rather not sit on the phone for another 1.75 hrs.

My enthusiasm was premature, the problem has resurfaced and is as bad as or worse then before. I bought a Linsys PAP2 off eBay for $6 and guess what... it is solid as a rock.

I am planning on calling Vonage Tech and informing them that in my opinion the Vonage V-Portal VDV21 adapter is the worst piece of equipment I have EVER owned (and being a cutting edge tech guy I've purchased some real stinkers). Both of the VDV21's I have have now been replaced with older equipment that is less feature rich, but more reliable.
