While we are very lucky in Boston, I would just point out that Comcast needed to add most of these channels to stay competitive with RCN, (another cable franchise in parts of Boston) which also already went all-digital.
I do hope that the lineup is fixed sometime soon though, since pay channels are all over (762-782 and 868-884) |

I don't know for sure, but everything I've read is that Boston & Brookline are the only 860mhz systems and the only ones in the area to go all-digital. Doing so means they have (had?) an abundance of bandwidth for HD. |

I agree with you though, they need to fix that lineup. It's incomprehensible the way it is now. |

owine Premium join:2002-08-29 Salem, MA | reply to moulder3 Boston's lineup is not really a response to competition. There is no FiOS in Boston. They do compete with RCN but the key is that they are a 860mhz system with a very small amount of analog channels. |

| reply to moulder3 I'm in Hamburg PA and would die for that lineup. I think last time I counted we had 35 or 36 channels. I hope Comcast in Hamburg will hire some of your talented Boston engineers! Or at least our engieers have a conference call with Boston's and learn how they do it up there!

 Comcast pricing - Boston |
said by cypherstream :Oh my god. What does that cost ya a month? I attached our new rates. It's not cheap, but probably not THAT much more than what most are paying. Basically $76 or so (for cable, excluding pay channels) + $15 for the 1st HD/DVR box.
I could probably save $15 a month with RCN cable (the other provider in Boston) but I've been very impressed with Comcast's offerings. |

| reply to Spiderman865 said by Spiderman865 :How's the picture quality with all of those bandwidth hogging HD channels? I've been very impressed overall. While some channels seem to have some pixelation during fast movement, they are the "secondary" type channels (Food Network, AMC, FX, Style, Bravo).
I could be crazy, but I don't think Comcast is using 3:1 compression on the locals (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX), major sports channels (ESPN, ESPN2, CSN, NESN), or primary movie channels (HDNet, HBO, Showtime...etc.)
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the quality of the HD channels. |
