Re: Telus 2Wire 2700HG-E modem on Teksavvy?

Hello,

If the modem is running firmware version 4.25.25 than yes Ikarasu password will work.. If it is running anything newer your going to be SOL.

That all being said most of the time Telus wants those modems back. They are only renting them to you.. It's been while sense they sold any hardware.

If you can get access to the modem. I would recommend posting in the 2wire forum for help re-configuring it to work with PPPoE. (not even sure if it's do-able)

Regards

My impression is that for the last year or two, the customer usually owns the modem (as in, a modem is shipped to them and not expected to be returned) in most circumstances @ TELUS. Legacy accounts would differ - check your bill for a modem rental (even if it's $0.00) - then you'd be expected to return the modem.

The bigger question in my mind is if he is able to get access to the MDC would the firmware in that modem even have an option for pppoe...? Telus does not use it...

Also thanks for that information.. I was not aware of that...

Been awhile since I had my modem...

But IIRC, it did have PPoE option, but it had some weird email address in it@telus.com, so I'm not sure if the PPoE is even functional since Telus doesn't use it.

Best bet is a new router/modem combo... one can be picked up for $25-50.

yeah, I don't remember if there's a PPPoE option available through the MDC - I want to say yes, but I don't have one in front of me.

2Wire's with the old MDC password are few and far between - so I dunno if it'll make any difference. There may be a way to flash with other firmware - unless the HG-E (TELUS revision) will only accept certain firmware - which is a likely scenario.

ISTR seeing something on the BellER forum about flashing their 2701HG-G modems. It might be worth looking there. IMO it is not worth the hassle of flashing modems with "funny" firmware unless you find that sort of thing enjoyable or challenging.

In any case, even if you end up bricking the Telus modem you can get a refurb'd 2700HG-B for ~$25 that will do essentially everything the 2701 series can do.

For $25 I think it would just be easier to buy one where you know it's going to do pppoe... And not bother goofing around with the telus Modem...

That being said I am always amazed what people will try in order to save money... LOL
