Adobe Flash Player for Linux SWF Processing Vulnerability

Alert Release Date: 2008-12-18

Description vuln.: the highly critical vulnerability is caused due to an unspecified error when processing SWF files and can potentially be exploited to execute arbitrary code.

Software: Adobe Flash Player for Linux versions 10.0.12.36, 9.0.151.0, and prior.

Solution:

Flash Player for Linux 9.x:
Update to version 9.0.152.0.

This vulnerability will have no effect on a machine as long as the user is not running as root. When the article says "it can allow a remote attacker to take over a machine," they really mean "it can allow a remote attacker to take over a machine if the user is dumb enough to be surfing the web as root."
