james join:2001-02-26 CWCville USA | P2P vs Piracy The linked articles talk about P2P, but not piracy. P2P is the most common way pedophiles share and trade their photos and videos, so it's actually a better idea for them to be looking at P2P.
The problem is that all these resources are going into "blocking" access to those things when they should in fact be used to find the people who are looking at it. This is just going to make those perverts harder to find as they use encryption to get around the blocks, and in turn make their traffic impossible to see, when before they would just trade in unencrypted and traceable methods which made them easy to catch.
Idiocy. |

I'm trying to say it's smart for them to *LOOK* at p2p transfers if they want to catch pedophiles. BUT the dumbest thing they could do is try to block p2p because the blocks will invariably be bypassed via encryption and advanced tunneling methods making it impossible for them to see what is being transferred.
Again, I'm saying it's stupid to block P2P, do I need to say it again for you? It's a bad idea to block P2P. Let me say it once more, since I thought it was pretty obvious in my first post that I was saying it was a bad idea to block P2P. |

I'd actually like your source for this bit of information. I've never heard that, ever, or encountered it in any form of P2P I've utilized, even accidentally.
Back before the internet, I'm sure they had other ways of trading this stuff. Why are we so willing to give up our rights to what we do online when we wouldn't give up those same physical rights to privacy? Or, most of us wouldn't anyway. I suppose I can't speak for everyone. -- You're watching Sports Night on CSC so stick around... |

 | Dana, you are right, You can definitely speak for the most of us. A lot of us seem to not realize that "few of them are ruining if for all" I'm sure there are 1% pedophiles and the rest are still normal humans.
I've worked in the IT industry for many years and the point here is that "someone" is confusing the mass media with "safety for our children" as a primary means to give up our freedom online by allowing isp's and agencies to monitor these Unencrytped sessions.
Once an individual enables encryption and tunnels their traffic via different servers and different ports, it is nearly untraceable to find the exact origin.
This gov.t oversite committee enforcing these measures clearly understands that P2P is used for other means other than illegal material however they still force this kind of non-sense on uneducated or educated by mislead public masses.
On a side note: before you begin getting a p2p file you must first download .torrent file, which is usually unecrytped and downloaded from a public server. This is when they will know what you're downloading.
Hope that explains a bit. |

 | reply to fatness And most importantly, find the ones who are producing it. Should be a mandatory life sentence for anyone engaging in this act and filming it. |
